Sunday Salon - Monday Mailbox

Sunday is my favorite day of the week!
When I retire I'll love everyday just as much!

Can I tell you how thrilled we were to wake up this morning without more snow!! Last night we got some sleet/rain and this morning nothing. I know I may sound like I'm bragging, but it was such a nice surprise. Now they say watch out for Wed-Fri of this week -- we shall see.

Since I was all geared up for a lazy Sunday, I could not let myself be disappointed. While my husband slept in late, I got up made coffee, read, watched several episodes of Law and Order, set Roxy in motion to do her thing and put wash in and let the washer do his thing, while I had more coffee and played scrabble online.  I then heard husband stirring and pretended to be hard at work all morning while he had slept, of course this was so I could feel less guilty when I took my afternoon nap -- it was all quite marvelous. (Oh I did make him a nice breakfast and dinner)

I stopped by the library Friday to pick up the audio version of American Psycho, Brett Easton Ellis, and can I tell you how much I  am loving this book so far (he hasn't killed anyone yet, but oh my his brain is quite twisted).

Mailbox Monday is an opportunity to share with other readers the new books that arrived for you during the previous week. February Host: Audra @ Unabridged Chick

Hope you all have a great week !

  1. We did not get any additional snow either, in fact, the sun shined all day today! Have a great week.

  2. It was a gloriously beautiful day here. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you have good weather this week. Enjoy your new book!

  3. How lucky to get the poems of Proust. Hope you enjoy all the books!

  4. So glad you bought The Patrick Melrose Novels, and I hope you enjoyed them as much as I did. I know they will long remain with me, and I discovered they are based in truth of his life. There's no wonder as I don't know how he could have written so powerfully without firsthand knowledge.

  5. Your day sounds fabulous. Mine wasn't far off, although I did have to grade papers this morning. But the rest of the day I read some and wrote some. It felt all about me.

  6. It sounds like your day was just about perfect. Go you for tackling American Psycho in audio! It still is one of my favorite books from last year, but it is 100 percent messed up and the most disgusting book I have ever read/listened to. I will definitely be curious to see what you think of it when things get intense!

  7. I'm glad we aren't getting snow where I am. I don't enjoy snow now that I don't get snow days. LOL.

  10. The Edward St Aubyn books are the ones I am eyeing. I have been following Dolce Belezza reviews on those ones as well. I do wish we could have some snow here. It will be marvellous to have some coolness. It is so very, very hot now.

  11. Dolce Bellezza has got me thinking about the Patrick Melrose books too.
I'm not sure if I could read American Psycho - how gory does it get? (I'm a complete wimp).

  12. Our temps made it to the high 30s yesterday plus we had bright sun all day - wonderful.
    Enjoy your new books, Diane!

  14. Glad you avoided the snow, but still had a peaceful Sunday. I have The Patrick Melrose Novels coming from the library - hopefully this week.

  15. Oh no, more snow! The Frost On His Shoulders sounds quite appropriate!

  16. Your Sunday sounds delightful! We were supposed to get snow too but it ended up only being rain. I have decided I only want snow on weekdays when it can disrupt work!

    Have a good week!

  17. Interesting to hear you're listening to American Psycho on audiobook, and receiving Proust in your mail. I'll be hosting a Proust read along in April/May, Remembrance of THings Past Vol. 1 You're most welcome to join but I can see you've your plate full. As for snow, I can't believe our winter has been relatively dry and warm. Spring should come pretty quick, hopefully.

  18. We were supposed to have cooler weather over the weekend, but instead, it rained, which made me a little sad. It's already hot here, and I would have loved a break from it, but I hear that we may be expected to get cooler temps later this week.

I remember reading American Psycho a long time ago, and it scared the pants off of me. It's a great book, but just so violent! I am liking your new stack as well. The Proust looks excellent!

  19. We were supposed to get more snow last night, but it skipped over our area. More in the forecast for today and tomorrow, but as of now it looks pretty decent outside.

I spent most of the weekend catching up on housework and laundry after a mini-getaway to Colorado last week, but I'm off today and plan to run a couple of errands and then come home and do a little cooking and reading.

BTW, I love your Roomba. We "test drove" one when they first came out (my husband was writing an article on them) and we were both quite impressed. Not sure if it can handle the dog hair on our carpeted floors, though.

    Have a great week!

  20. American Psycho takes awhile to get going in the violence department but you are in for quite a ride. I did enjoy it. Enjoy is definitely the wrong word but it's what comes to mind.

  24. Glad the snow didn't materialize … and I cannot WAIT for your review of American Psycho. When it gets bad, it gets really really bad. Hold on.

  25. We got your snow! :) Nice mailbox. I'm not familiar with any of those. Enjoy!

  26. There's some icy rain and snow passing through Chicago today and tomorrow so be on the lookout! I'm hoping for more rain than snow but it's starting to pile up out there.

And the books... all new ones for me.

  27. Oh my, your Sunday sounds marvelous!
