Week in Review - Sunday Salon

Deb Nance at Readerbuzz  hosts The Sunday Salon.

How was your week?   Another week and the end of summer, at least in my eyes, although we still have a few more weeks to officially ring in fall.  I'm loving the cooler nigh temps; it was 55 last night and we had a high of 78 yesterday - glorious sunny day. A pretty good reading week but, a few days I felt like I was in a bit of a funk.  We're not dining out but, we do get take out 1-2x a week so that's a nice treat.

Yesterday we took a walk around a private college not far from us and it was so odd not to see any students on campus ground. Instead,  area residents were enjoying the gorgeous grounds.   (2) of my husband's grandchildren are away on campus - Syracuse University and University of Wisconsin - Junior and Freshman years. We'll see how long that lasts with the virus.

I'm trying to line up a few new projects to change things up a bit when reading just isn't enough. As November gets closer, I'm hating television in general these days, it certainly isn't a mood enhancer.  I won't miss the debates later this month, that I'm looking forward to. but then...enough said about politics.

Here's something that does make me smile, Lucy is a loyal companion and lap warmer. Her brother Ricky is sweet too but, he is subject to mood swings too - who knew that happens to cats?  LOL

Lucy

Dare Devil Ricky

So I have been reading, but haven't sat down to write any reviews.  Finished (2) books (loved them both). I have (3) in progress but, many, many, more that I want to read this month. We'll see how that goes.

Books I Finished this Week

Looking Forward to in September

I'm looking forward to apple picking season, guess that would be something we can do safely with masks and, who doesn't love the smell of fresh-baked apple-anything??  Guessing we need to wait about 3 more weeks for this.

  1. It's nice to see your two cute sweeties, howdy Ricky and Lucy! Yes, TV is pretty bad, that's their new normal.

  2. Ricky's pose made me laugh! I'm looking forward to the new Lisa Unger. :)

  3. I read and enjoyed Hilderbrand's book this summer and O'Hara's book many, many summers ago. I have the other two that you are currently reading on my TBR list and am looking forward to them.

My two "loyal companions" are Beau and Bella, of whom Beau is the lap warmer and Bella is the standoffish one. They keep me on my toes as cats are wont to do!

  4. Still summer here. Temps in the triple digits this weekend. Ouch! Your reading looks good, past and future.

  5. I love the smell of apple-anything! Spring seems to be in the air a bit here in SA, let's hope.

Cats and mood swings, oh it's a thing. Believe me! I have 4 felines. Elza is the easy one, although very spoiled. My black one is very laid back and the rescue cat is very anxious. My eldest one is a real spinster or something and can be very very moody!!

The Mysterious affair at Styles is a great read. All Agatha Christie's are!

I struggle to get into Elena Ferrante's writing style. I know she's highly popular, just doesn't work for me.

Anyway, hope you will have a wonderful week!

  6. Wow. I love hearing that you had temps down to 55. And 78 is fabulous weather. We are hoping to get some of that cool air down here soon. Would you please send a little down to the Texas Gulf Coast?

We live near the high school in our town, and it's odd to see the empty campus. In a few weeks, they say, some will return to the campus. I wonder how many will. And how in the world will they do some things (band? athletics?) virtually? Hopefully they will come up with a good plan.

I have 28 Summers waiting for me at the library. Thanks for the recommendation.

    Have a good week, Diane.

  7. Oh, I can't wait to see what you think about The Vanishing Half and the Ruth Ware book! I am also looking forward to (and dreading) the debates.

  8. Ricky and Lucy are so cute! My cats have mood swings and are always sitting/laying in weird positions.

I've slowed down with my reading again. I don't think I'll meed my GR goal this year, oh well!

  9. Thanks for this, I added a couple to my TBR list.

  10. We'll be reading THE VANISHING HALF for book club before the end of the year. I am looking forward to it. My Sunday Salon posting

  11. Love The Vanishing Half, too! I'm reading The Book of Two Ways right now. It's an interesting look at the ways we think of death but I'm not sure yet, at half way through, where she's going with it.

  12. Look at those adorable kitties!! Such fun!

I'm actually dreading the coming cold weather months. I like Fall generally - it's usually my favorite season, but six months of being mostly cooped up at home is making me dread the next six months. Gosh - so depressing so far, I'll need to get creative with stuff to do at home with kids.

  13. We are 55 roughly during the day, I dread to think what it is a night!

Ricky is definitely a daredevil, I’d love to get a cat one day but my goodness they go everywhere don’t they!

How are you enjoying One by One, I really liked it.

    Have a great week?

  14. That's a great picture of Ricky! Made me laugh!

I'm anxious to read The Vanishing Half and Picoult's new book. However, I'm devoting the next two months to the R.I.P. XV challenge and have a bunch of mysteries and thrillers lined up, so those other books will just have to wait in line.

Hope you are having a good weekend. Hardly seems like Labor Day, especially since it's cold and overcast here. It really doesn't feel like we had a summer since we didn't go anywhere, didn't have any visitors, and it was chilly!

  15. Your cooler weather sounds nice. We still have some triple digits...sigh. But it never gets that cold in the winter, so I guess it's a trade-off.

I am eager to get the new Ruth Ware book, and I want to read my copy of The Vanishing Half soon.

I have pre-ordered the Lisa Unger and Jodi Picoult books.

Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting my blog.

  16. Ricky and Lucy are adorable! I'm looking forward to cooler weather here, supposed to have lows in the 50s starting tomorrow. My kids start remote learning tomorrow too, middle & high school. Fingers crossed it goes well!

  17. Yes, I've always thought of Labor Day as the start of Fall too. Your temperatures sound so nice. Ours have finally gone down a bit and we enjoyed a really nice walk early this morning. Can't wait to hear what you think of those books. I've got some on my TBR list!

  18. Lucky you to have cooler temps! Here in Arizona, we're still having daily extreme heat warnings. *Sigh*

My daughter is a college freshman this year. So far her classes are all online, so she's barely been on campus. She insisted on living off-campus, just in case the dorms get evacuated again. We'll see what happens. I'm glad other people in your area get to enjoy the campus at least!

  19. I envy you your weather. It was 117F this past weekend. It's been slightly cooler since then, but on the hot side. I will be glad when fall comes here. At least today we can see the sun a bit. Yesterday was so dark because of all the smoke. We're staying indoors where hopefully the air is a bit cleaner.

I would imagine the walk around the college campus was strange with no students out and about. I am glad you were able to get out for awhile though and take a stroll.

Love your cat photos. :-) Lucy and Ricky are so beautiful. My cats have their mood swings too.

I hope you enjoy your reading and have a great rest of the week, Diane. Take care.

  20. My daughter has friends at Syracuse but they are living here and taking classes remotely. They are freshman too. I guess they gave them the choice?

Our high schools were supposed to start hybrid this week but the state guidelines has pushed the date to mid October now. It won't happen. Maybe in January if the virus is actually handled and not swept under the rug.

I have become very vocal about our lack of leadership lately. I cannot risk another four years with this administration. I am muddling along with work (from home) and my daughter has submitted about four college apps now and is trying to get her prescreen audition materials together. It's a very stressful time. I need to let go of this anxiety but reading helps a lot.

  21. My reading has been up and down as well Rita. As for our 2 cats, they were born in Georgia and shipped to our shelter together, same age but, they were not 100% positive it was same litter - I suspect they are though.
