Sunday Blatherings

It's beginning to look a little more like fall here but, the foliage is kind of late this year. I'm loving the 60 degree temps and cool nights.  Hope to get in a fall trip to Cape Cod this month. There is nothing like visiting seaside towns once the tourists have gone home.

I'm someone who has never enjoyed exercise (even grade school gym) but, I've always wanted to try Yoga.  Last month I started going to yoga 3 mornings a week and am loving it.  I can't believe I found some exercise I love.  I started out in a regular class (not gentle yoga) but, only found 2 positions that are a little tougher for me so I'm very pleased.  Do any of you do yoga?

READING

  • The Heavens May Fall; Allen Eskens - fantastic mystery finished this week (review next week)
  • Leave Me; Gayle Forman - now reading (I'm enjoying this one but, the protagonist is annoying. She should be feeling grateful but she's bitchy instead IMO)

NEW BOOK ARRIVALS

Have a great week!

  1. Our town is like that too, it is always fun to visit when the tourists all go home. We appreciate their visits, but are glad to get our town back. I do Yoga, but not as often as I should. Glad you love it.

    1. It's tough not to complain about the extra traffic that comes with tourists, but, yes we need them.

  3. Where I live the snowbirds arrive for the winter. And while I'm glad they share our love for the area, it is good when they go back up north. Good for you for starting yoga! I do yoga but not as much as I wish I did. One of my October fitness goals is to do it at least 8 times. Right now I'm using a dvd, but after we move there'll be a YMCA near me. I may join a few of their different classes, depending on what they offer. Your cat is beautiful! I saw that video yesterday and it cracked me up, I love Medea!

    1. It's funny we need the tourists/snowbirds for the economy yet complain about the extra traffic etc.

  5. I have done yoga since I was 19, and love it. I'm no athlete. I love the meditative quality and the stretching. I do it at home, not in a class. Where was that first pic taken?

  7. That's great that you're loving yoga! And I just read an article about Leave Me....saying it's "escape fantasy for overwhelmed working moms". But, I haven't read it.

  9. I have done yoga on and off over the years but never stick at it. I am not very good at being at one with myself I guess. Glad you have found exercise you enjoy though - I am still to do that!

  12. I belonged to a yoga class that met in the school I worked in after hours (gentle yoga, forget the term) but after a few months the instructor decided to quit because not enough folks were signing up, and she charged by each lesson and thought she was losing money. Oh well, it was a wonderful experience while it lasted. Good for you doing the more robust kind!

I read the first book by Eskens and was surprised to really enjoy it as much as I did. I'll be on the look-out for this one.

Enjoy your pretty scenery and your reads this week.

    1. Rita, my classes are a pay per session but, it's only $5.00 and so worth it. Eskens is awesome. His newest book (no review yet) was great.

  13. I don't do yoga right now but it's one that I want to start. Maybe when I have weaned off my baby, I will start it. We went to the Blue Ridge mountains this weekend and the Fall colors were so beautiful. That's the only place we have seen the colors so far - we are still waiting for the colors to turn over here in Virginia.

  14. Cute kitty!! I love yoga - it's the one exercise that I truly enjoy - other than walking. I found a yoga studio near my home and started attending classes (sporadically - our schedules conflict most of the time). I enjoy the classes, but started taking a beginners workshop to step back a little and get some basics. I try to start my mornings with a short yoga flow - it's amazing how much better I feel when I do!

  17. I so agree about visiting beach towns off-season! My husband and I took a week-long vacation recently and ended on our anniversary with one of our favorite beach towns here in DE (and some of our favorite restaurants, too!). Not much fall color here yet, either - mostly still green with a bit of yellow.

I enjoy yoga, too, though my stamina isn't good enough for a full-hour class, so I do it at home. I start every morning with 10-15 min of yoga stretches - feels so good to loosen up those stiff muscles after sleeping all night!

The Eskens book sounds good - my book group recently read The Life We Bury by him and everyone liked it.

    Enjoy your books this week!
