Week #4 in Review - 2020

Last week flew by but I still found time to stick to normal routines like reading, movies and yoga. I also had my book group discussion which resumed after a long holiday break. We discussed, The Stars Are Fire; Anita Shreve, which was a book everyone enjoyed and it also made for a great discussion as well. Next month's book is The Woman in Cabin 10; Ruth Ware (another reread for me but, I liked it so I don't mind.)

We didn't go to the movies but, we did watch: McFarland USA. It's a Disney movie and a heartwarming story which deserved a repeat viewing by us. Have you seen it?

Last Week in Books

Maybe You Should Talk to Someone; Lori Gottlieb - 5/5 stars (print)
The Secrets We Kept; Lara Prescott - 3.5/5 stars (audio)

The Violent Bear it Away; Flannery O'Connor
DNF (just wasn't working for me)

   In progress and loving these!

This Week's Plans

This evening we are planning on seeing a play called Death Trap, a comedy/thriller.  Wednesday, I'll be having dinner with some high school friends (which is always fun) and, the rest of the week is up for grabs at this point; perhaps the movie 1917How was your week?

  1. My week flew by, but I managed to stay on track with yoga and pickleball. We've had nothing but rainy weather for the past week and it looks like we're in for more. I finished a great thriller/mystery by Louise Luna called Two Girls Down. I can't wait to read the follow-up! I'm just now getting into the tv series This Is Us. So far, so good. Have a great week, Diane!

    1. I do like This is Us! However, my favorite series are the medical ones like: The Good Doctor, The Residents and New Amsterdam - so good.

  2. Looks like you're going to have a fabulous week ahead! The Woman in Cabin 10 sounds like a fun read - I remember hearing about it when it first came out but I haven't read it yet. McFarland USA does sound like a good movie so I'll be checking it out.

  3. My week was filled with a lot of reading, as I continued recuperating from a recent health issue. The only compensation for being less than 100% is that I do get lots of reading done!

  4. One of my reading groups has read quite a few by Anita Shreve.

    1. A few of her books have the same formula but, for the most part, I've liked them all. Only one I never read was Stella Bain.

  6. We had our book discussion group meeting last week, too. I had been wanting to read the book for years, but when it came down to it, I couldn't get motivated to read it. It made me so mad at myself when I went to the discussion as it was probably the best discussion we have ever had. And I missed out.

I'm so glad to see how much you liked Maybe You Should Talk to Someone. I enjoyed that one a lot.

I'm eager to read Good Neighborhood and Olive, Again. The first Olive was one of my favorite reads the year I read it.

    Have a lovely week!

    1. Deb, that has happened to me once or twice as well, just not getting motivated enough to read to read the monthly ick.

  7. I am glad you were able to get in some reading and yoga this past week, Diane. It was busy week for us as usual. I am glad you are enjoying your current reads! I hope you enjoy the play. Mouse had wanted to hit the neighborhood today for the first day of Girl Scout Cookie season (in our area, at least), but now that the day is here she has completely lost interest. I hate these moments. Be the mean parent and push her to go, or let it go because it's ultimately her responsibility if she wants to put the work in or not to reach her goal. Ho hum. She isn't able to sale in the neighborhood during the week because of my work schedule, and next weekend is full. It doesn't help that we've been going nonstop all this past week and weekend. Yesterday were auditions for the summer shows and then we picked up the cookies. And there's no break in sight for the next month and a half. . . I am exhausted just thinking about it. Haha.

I hope you have a great week, Diane!

    1. Wendy, I remember those days as a working mom, also taking college courses and trying to be able to juggle it all with 2 young children (as a single parent). Fortunately my parents lived 5 minutes away, otherwise, I never could have accomplished what I did. It isn't easy, so I admire working moms like yourself.

We love GS Cookies (who doesn't?) and last year couldn't find anyone selling them in front of grocery stores etc? weird. Haven't seen any this year either yet.

Have a great week, and breathe:)

    1. Yep, I do like routine and, a few "unexpected things" are nice when it's a fun thing -- don't need an unexpected dental appointment or car repair in my life LOL

  14. Last week was very rushed but I did enjoy some time out with friends. I read quite a bit but reviews were done only today. I'm glad I caught up with reviews otherwise it leaves me with a sort of guilty feeling.

  15. Last week flew past here, too... so much was going on, but I did manage to get most of my walks in as well as a bike ride. Glad Gottlieb's book turned out to be a 5-star read for you, too. The audio was just fabulous, too. I'm looking forward to both Olive, Again and A Good Neighbor... your initial reaction is encouraging. Have a good week!

  17. I have not seen Macfarland but I am pretty sure that is the movie my son's track coach worked on. My son's track coach was also my health teacher in high school, if you can believe it. Different cities. Many years in between as you can imagine.
