Every Tuesday I host First Chapter First Paragraph Tuesday Intros, where I share the first paragraph or (a few) of a book I am reading or thinking about reading soon. Care to join us? Today's pick---
Mr. Lynch's Holiday; Catherine O'Flynn
Henry Holt - 2013
2008"He arrived on a cloudless day. As he stepped onto the tarmac, he looked up at the sky and saw nothing but blue and the traces left by other planes.
The terminal was deserted. He wandered along polished floors with a handful of other passengers. Music was playing somewhere. An old tune, he couldn't remember the name. It was not how he'd imagined airports. It seemed more like a ballroom to him. Something grand and sad about the place."

ReplyDeleteThere is something very grand and stately about some airports. I have to fly a lot to go visit my mother, sometimes at ridiculously early hours, and when those massive halls are empty they do look almost scary at times! Thanks for sharing and hosting :)

Interesting! I wonder why he is there and why it is so empty.
ReplyDeleteI like the intro, but would need a bit more info about the book in general before making a decision
ReplyDeleteThe intro grabbed me--I'd keep reading.
ReplyDeleteI would definitely read further. I am curious about the airport!
ReplyDeleteI can see why he sees the terminal like a ballroom. I would have never seen one that way without reading those lines. It's beautiful writing. I've never heard of the title either. I'll bet this one is a good book.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like one of those Armageddon scenes where everyone has disappeared. Hopefully not, though. Here's Mine
ReplyDeleteAn airport that isn't so very busy! How rare! It makes me think it must be a smaller one. I would keep reading. I would like to know more.
ReplyDeleteI'm intrigued... want to know more!
ReplyDeleteSounds as if he arrived at siesta time, I would keep reading.

ReplyDeleteYes, we would want to know what is happening too!
ReplyDeleteSound like it's his first time at an airport.
ReplyDeleteCatherine O'Flynn, that sounds familiar, perhaps the author of What Was Lost? I'm off to look it up.
ReplyDeleteI liked it but would need to read a bit more before I made the decision to buy.
ReplyDeleteSounds good. I want to know what airport that is because it certainly isn't one I know of!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'm intrigued. It almost sounds like sci-fi scenario in which everyone on earth is suddenly missing except for this one guy who remained.
ReplyDeleteAnyway I like travel books, fact and fiction :)
