First Chapter First Paragraph Tuesday Intros - The Life We Bury; Allen Eskens

Every Tuesday I host First Chapter First Paragraph Tuesday Intros, where I share the first paragraph or (a few) of a book I am reading or thinking about reading soon.

The Life We Bury; Allen Eskens
Seventh Street Books - 2014

Chapter 1

"I remember being pestered by a sense of dread as I walked to my car that day, pressed down by a wave of foreboding that swirled around my head and broke the evening in small ripples.  There are people in this world who would call that kind of feeling a premonition, a warning from some internal third eye that can see around the curve of time.  I've never been one to buy into such things.  But I will confess that there have been times when I think back to that day and wonder: if the fates had truly whispered in my ear--if I had known how that drive would change so many things--would I have taken a safer path?  Would I have turned left where before I had turned right?  Or would I still travel the path that led me to Carl Iverson?"

What do you think? Would you read more?

  1. I do love stories that make us wonder "what if" I had done this or that?

    1. I tend to go with my gut -- not every time but if it involves travel --always. One time were were suppose to take a train to NYC and it didn't feel right. I convinced my DH to take a bus, and he reluctently agreed. Guess what, the train, derailed --no one killed just lots injured and we would have missed our function in the city had we taken the train.

  18. I actually had this book on my Goodreads wishlist from earlier in the year, then forgot about it. I like these type of stories. I seem to be picking up more reads about the law, wrongfully imprisoned people, etc. due to the dinner chat from my son when he is home. I think this was why I singled this one out. Anyway, I hope that this is one that you review, as I haven't seen any other reviews around and I'm curious.
