Saturday Snapshots -- Maine and Cats

Last weekend we took off for a weekend getaway to Portland, Maine.  What a treat. Portland is such a hip city, It's walker friendly and such a lovely seaside town with wonderful cobblestone streets, fabulous shops and yummy restaurants.

Here are a few pics -- I shot with my phone, but here are some better ones I found online..(More of Portland, Maine)

 Old Port

Of course we had to bring home some pure, organic catnip toys for those who were left at home. We were quickly forgiven.

    1. Great roads and not the traffic of everywhere else as well.

  2. I definitely see a connection to Europe in those top two photos. Hope they don't end up having the same problem Paris had with the love locks. I have a tiny piece of the Berlin wall. My husband and I traveled there in 1991, shortly after the wall fell. Love Portland, Maine too!

  4. Some years back, we (quite oddly) visited both Portland, Maine and Portland, Oregon the same summer. Loved them both. Visited Longfellow's tiny cramped home in Maine, I remember.

  7. Beautiful photos. I have never been to Maine--it's about as far as you can get from the Pacific Northwest and still be in the U.S.! I'd love to visit that part of the country.
Thank you for visiting my blog and leaving a comment.

  10. Looks like fun! I've been thinking of planting catnip but I'm afraid my cats would eat it as fast as it grew - and then lay around the backyard stoned all day!

  11. I loved living in Boothbay Harbor, Maine and we went to South Portland all the time as it was the biggest concentration of shopping (mall and outerlying stores) nearest to us.

Where you went-- the city of Portland itself-- is hip, progressive, friendly, and fun to visit. Quirky shops and cafes. My youngest attended a few concerts there and we've taken walks by Old Port. I recommend it to anyone up that way, and so glad you had fun, Diane!

  13. I just had coffee with a friend yesterday who was telling me about his trip to Oregon. It made me so wistful for the place I've never visited, but long for the peace and individuality I sense comes from there.

That Berlin wall/poster is quite piercing. I taught in West Germany when the wall was still up, and I'll never forget its effect on the people.
