Goodbye June

I said this in last month as well, I'm happy to say goodbye to yet another month. Thank goodness I'm a reader and my knee is lot's better, because that news on television is so damn depressing. I still can only walk about a mile right now without pain but I'll take it.

Our state is still taking it slow with re openings. Some restaurants opened this week for indoor dining at 50% capacity to allow for social distancing. Are state's numbers continue to decline and, our libraries are still only doing curbside. I also have a feeling our senior center (and my yoga classes held there) will not be opening this year but, safety first! I dread the day when bars open indoors as that's when numbers most likely will spike again with people being careless. We don't plan to change our routine back to the old normal even though I am a homebody but, I'm starting to get very sick of spending so much time at home - (4) months now. I did get my first haircut in 4 months (3" off) and, it felt great. I was the first appointment and the only one in the salon except my stylist.

June was my 12 year blogging anniversary - never expected to reach that milestone but, I finally gave myself permission to post just when I feel like it. Thank you to all of you who take the time to stop by now and then.

Outside…
We were officially in a drought last week but be got a few hours of steady rain yesterday and thunderstorms are in store for the next few days. Sunny now but looks like it's clouding up a bit. It's been hot and humid this past week.
Watching…
I didn't watch much television last week, except for one movie: My Cousin Vinny  (perhaps my 10th time and still enjoy it). I want to watch The Hate U Give some time this week and would also like to read the book.
Exercise and other highlights…
Regular floor exercises everyday. Most are leg strengthening exercises but also some yoga..
To Do List…
  • Depends on the weather really and how fast I get moving.
  • Follow up doctor visit for my knee on Tuesday (last visit I suspect).
  • This week is the 6th birthday of our other granddaughter so plan to stop by to see her.
  • Recall for my car and that I've put off for 4 months, so having that done on Wednesday.
Retail Therapy...

Nothing.

  1. Looks like you had a great reading month. The only one on your June list that I've read is "Hidden Valley Road" and I'm still kind of freaked out by that family. As weeks go by since I've read the book, I can't help but wonder more and more what in the world the parents in that family were thinking - why they kept having children despite all the evidence that what was going on had to be at least partly genetic.

Let's hope July is a better month. Houston is regressing at a rapid pace right now as regards the virus. I honestly think it was a combination of the bars re-opening, the huge protest rallies downtown, and the fact that work weeks the media quit talking about the virus in favor of 24-7 coverage of the protests and rioting across the country.

  2. We're glad to see June go. Our state reopened everything and now we've had more Covid positive cases than we did before it reopened.

  3. June wasn’t a good month for me so I’m glad it’s over too.

Wishing you a great reading week

  4. Last week the county I live in issued a mandatory order that anyone going out in the public must wear a mask. I've seen a few people without one still but nowhere as many as there were before.

I hope you have a great week, I'll be back to wish your granddaughter a Happy Birthday!

  6. It's good to hear your knee is better. As one who is also plagued with problem knees, believe me when I say I feel your pain! Congratulations on your blogging anniversary and on your haircut. I hope to join the ranks of the newly shorn in the coming week. I also read Death in Her Hands this month and liked it a lot better than you did. I'll post my review soon.

  7. I'm coming to terms with 2020 and have stopped wishing it away -- enjoying working in my garden and enjoying the warmth of the sun, new binoculars for birding, and reading on the back deck.

We went our for breakfast for Father's Day and were so nervous we decided to continue to do pickup or delivery when we don't feel like cooking.

Colorado is doing fairly well in terms of the pandemic--I rarely see people without masks, which is great.

I really enjoyed Save Me the Plums, and want to read other books by this author.

  8. Knee problems are horrible, my husband has had both of his replaced and they still aren't right. Congrats on your 12th. year of blogging, that's some acheivement.

  9. A lot of reading done. Glad you're healing up! Happy July!

  10. Happy Blogiversary! I'm so glad you're still blogging. I've just noticed the absence of one of my favorite blogs, which is disappointing, but I get it. I still enjoy it and will keep going as long as I'm able.

I'm so sorry your knee is still giving you trouble. That must be frustrating, but I'm glad you're able to walk a little distance. I'll bet it was wonderful to get your haircut. Mine is still manageable (long and straight, so no issue), but my husband's is beginning to look a little wild. Think Albert Einstein! :)

Looks like you had a pretty good month of reading. I've only finished three books and doubt I'll add anymore to my list before the 30th. I'm looking forward to Save Me the Plums later this year. I'm still focusing on my 20 Books of Summer stacks and at the rate I'm going, I may have a lot over overflow into fall.

    Take good care!

  11. Hi Diane,
So much to comment on in your post!
I loved My Cousin Vinnie--I caught up on so many classic movies when I broke my leg in 2012. MCV was one I had missed, and it was a sheer delight! Would watch it again in a heartbeat.
I will post about this, but Ken and I are watching, night by night, Alfred Hitchcock's entire oeuvre. The biggest re-watch for me so far was The Birds. Although it was my third viewing, I thought Tippi Hedrin's acting was superb throughout. And wasn't it her debut film? I think, the horror aside, that it was so well crafted.
We've also so far watched Dial M for Murder with Grace Kelly, Rear Window, and Hitch's final film Family Plot, starring Bruce Dern. I had never seen it, and it had so many comedic elements. An interesting film for Hitch's swan song. We still have lots more to go. I plan to do a blog post about this project of ours.
And I think it's so great that you're now able to walk a mile! It's so aggravating that progress takes time.

    1. Oh, Diane!
I forgot to mention that I simply loved Surfside Sisters by Nancy Thayer. I'm so glad you recommended it to me. Thanks!

  12. I'm glad your knee is starting to feel better; physical pain can put a damper on so much of life. We have started reopening and numbers are up so I expect to hear about reversals soon. I know we're on the CA "watch list."

  13. There's some good news here! Thankfully your knee is feeling better and 12 years blogging is something to celebrate!

  14. Your state is being much more cautious about reopening than mine, and I think that is good. Our people seem to think everything is over, and that has resulted in some huge spikes in the Houston area. I get so frustrated with people who are irresponsible.

Happy blogoversary! Your mention of twelve years as a blogger reminded me that I, too, celebrated twelve years as a blogger this month. I've also set aside the need to post frequently. I still love to blog, even after all this time.

I'm glad your knee is doing better. You don't need any more worries right now.

  15. I wish Arizona had been slower with its reopening. Funny thing: I'm something of a hermit and I spent all of last year building a habit of getting out more. Now, I sorely miss trips to the library or up to the mall for a coffee.

  16. I haven't thought about blogoversaries in ages, but I have also been blogging for twelve years!

I am glad your state is being cautious. I cringe at the numbers in some states right now.

I don't think I'll ever feel safe to do things we used to take for granted.

Your books look good...I've read some of them, and plan to read others.

Thanks for sharing, and for visiting my blog.

  17. I'm glad your knee is getting better and allowing for some nice walks. And it's good that your state is opening slowly. Our governor squandered what good he did early by opening every single thing within a few weeks of each other. It's maddening. And, of course, masks are optional.
Did you enjoy The Hate You Give? My whole book group liked the book, but I haven't seen the movie yet.
    Goodbye to June indeed :)

  18. Congratulations on 12 years of blogging! I reach that milestone in a few months. Cases of COVID are exploding here... almost no masks, little social distancing. We're back to square one I'm afraid. Glad you enjoyed Save Me the Plums! It was a favorite last year. The Hate U Give is a good, quick read, but I haven't seen the film. My favorite book this month (and so far this year) is The Most Fun We Ever Had. On to July...

  19. Our bars opened last week and now they are closed again due to spikes. Everyone is complaining but what did you think would happen? People shoulder to shoulder and literally spilling out of places. My son wants to celebrate his friend's bday tonight and the bars are closed I told him to stay home. It's safer and cheaper.

I have a recall on my Subaru for some sensor for the airbag but they closed our Subaru dealer and there isn't one anywhere near me now. How will I handle that one? Feels silly to drive 80 miles for service and a rental most likely.

  20. My state opened quickly and we are now seeing a rise in cases and hospitilizations. I just try to not leave my house and wear a mask when I do. I enjoyed The New Husband and The Girls of Summer (though it wasn't my favorite Thayer book).

  21. Happy Blogiversary!! Yes, so demoralizing to still be in the thick of this darn virus. Some days it feels like that movie, Ground Hog Day. Every morning is the same day. All I can say is, it sure has been a good time for reading. Stay safe!

  22. Happy 12th year on the blog. Time goes quickly. I'm glad you're still on this. We've had low Covid numbers here ... but still remain pretty vigilant. We try to take walks & bike rides so we don't go too crazy. Enjoy your July books!

  23. Sounds like a good reading month, and congrats on 12 years blogging!

I'm with you on being sick of spending so much time at home. I'm very much a homebody, and an introvert, who is currently a SAHM, so prior to all this I did spend a lot of time at home anyway... It surprised me to feel this way, but I just want a bit of variety, y'know.

    Anyway, happy July!

  24. I am glad your knee is feeling a bit better, Diane. I hope the slow re-opening goes well for your area. Too many people, including the local government, rushed into opening here and yet still people aren't taking it seriously. The Hate U Give is such a great book. I haven't managed to see the movie yet. It hasn't been available on streaming yet. I hope you have a great week. Stay safe and well.
