The Kind Worth Killing; Peter Swanson
Harper Audio -2020
Chapter 1
TED
"Hello There," she said.
I looked at the pale, freckled hand on the back of the empty bar seat next to me in the business class lounge at Heathrow Airport, then up into the stranger's face.
"Do I know you?" I asked. She didn't look particularly familiar, but her American accent, her crisp white shirt, her sculpted jeans tucked into knee high boots, all made her look like one of my wife's awful friends.
I started this yesterday and it's quite intense - detestable characters for sure but I'm liking it so far.
What do you think --read more or pass?
I enjoy Peter Swanson's books, and this one sounds like a good one. Great excerpts!
ReplyDeleteI do as well Laurel; this one is so addictive in a dark ku=ind of way.
DeleteI haven't read any of Peter Swanson's books, but this sounds good. I'd keep reading.
ReplyDeleteHe is really good and I like that most of his books take place in New England as well.
DeleteDetestable characters can be fun sometimes :)
ReplyDeleteYes so true, I think many of us enjoy that occasional walk on the dark side.
DeleteI haven't read this author but that is certainly an intriguing start to the story.
ReplyDeleteI really like this author a lot and I think there was only one book (Every Vow You Break) tthat I did not care for.
DeleteProbably pass but I'm not sure why! LOL
ReplyDeleteI listened to this one a couple of years ago and thought it was very good. From my blog, "After I read Swanson's thriller Her Every Fear a few years ago, several friends suggested I read his early book The Kind Worth Killing. Many of those bloggers said it was better than Her Every Fear and now that I've read this one, I have to agree. I didn't like any of the characters, but thoroughly enjoyed this noir thriller, which is full of twists and turns that kept me guessing up until the very end. The audiobook is well done with a strong performance by four narrators, although there were a couple of times when I wasn't sure if I was hearing from Lily or Miranda's point of view. Other than that one minor complaint, this is a compelling, tautly crafted story. Highly recommend!"
ReplyDeleteI'd like to continue. I am sure there is a tense story beyond this.
