Happy Valentine's Day Blogging Buddies.
Did you have a good week? We missed yet another snowstorm, and I'm asking myself how long can this good luck continue? We were suppose to get 4-6" on Monday so they closed schools even before the snow started. We ended up getting only about 2" and it did not start until the afternoon, when school would have be almost over. Talk about panicking ! On Thursday, the husband and I went to the movies again (I think we are one to a new routine here). Have you seen It's Complicated, with Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin. OMG, it was so good; we both loved it and we laughed our heads off too. Go See This Movie!
Speaking of "it's complicated", guess what happened this week? Let me just say that fate hooked me back in touch with 2 of my 3 old High School girl friends this week. We each have 2 children around the same ages and when the kids were pre-schoolers, we would get together a lot. Then jobs, life, kids, divorces, relocation, etc. got in the way and we lost touch. Well if all goes well, we will be meeting for lunch this Thursday after not seeing each other for at least 25 years! I'm sure we will each have a sore throat after having so much to talk about after all this time. (Update on how it went next Sunday). Are you good about staying in touch with old friends?
Yesterday, I went to a library book sale in Connecticut. All books were either 50 cents or $1.00, so I brought home some new books and only spent $6.50!!

ReplyDeleteYou found some great books. I'm a fan of John McGahern. Enjoy them all!
We got a foot of snow earlier in the week but we're used to it and they did NOT close the schools!!!
Wasn't the Tropper book a hoot?!! Sacred Hearts is on my tbr list. I have the new SAA book for review but want to read it right before release date. Have agreat week, Diane!
Sounds like you had a blast with your old friends.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you missed the snow too. We only ever get about 1 to 2 inches and nothing more.
Well done on your library book buys.
Lovely set of books for the price!
ReplyDeleteToo bad about the snow. We have a lot as well, but luckily I have some audio books to keep me company!
I love book sales like that. They are s great for adding to the collection.
ReplyDeleteI have got to get over to see It's Complicated. It looks fun and I have heard nothing but good things about it.
Sounds like you had a nice week! If you want some more snow I would be happy to give you a foot or two.
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day!
Happy Valentine's Day! It must've been the week for library sales, because I stumbled on one, too, and managed to come home with a pile of books for 5 bucks.
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day!
ReplyDeleteHave fun with your friends. I'm sure those 25 years will just melt away.
Great loot! The Blind Assassin is excellent. Happy Vday, Diane!
ReplyDeleteWhat a week! That's so cool that you ran into your old friends like that! I bought Blind Assassin this week to for a reading challenge! I LOVE Something Dangerous, btw. Happy Valentine's Day!
ReplyDeleteHave fun with your friends, Diane!
ReplyDeletehappy valentine's day! those books look like a lot of fun :)
ReplyDeleteI loved "It's Complicated"! More than I was expecting too. I thought it was hysterical. It's so nice to meet up with old friends. I'm still in touch with many from high school and I feel really lucky to be. That's so great that you got all those books for such a steal! I've had my eye on that Margaret Atwood one. Happy Valentine's Day. Enjoy!
ReplyDelete1. I loved It's Complicated, despite being much younger than the intended audience. It was indeed hilarious!
ReplyDelete2. I am coveting your library sale haul. Wow!
3. I am looking forward to your review of This Book is Overdue. I got it on my Kindle, but I haven't read it yet.
Happy reading!
I've been wanting to see It's Complicated, but not sure if I'll make it before it leaves the theater. Have fun with your old friends!
ReplyDeleteWhat great finds at the book sale! I try to keep in contact with old friends, but it's difficult at times. I went to the wedding reception of the girl who was my maid of honor, and saw some friends there that I hadn't seen in about 10 years, which was fun.
ReplyDeleteWhat was really fun was chatting with some of the girls who I hadn't seen in about 5 years. I remember commenting to them the last time I had seen them about how being a parent was way more exhausting than I had anticipated (and they didn't have kids then, so their response was something along the lines of "duh!"). Now they all have kids who range from 1 to 3 years old, and I made the same comment just to see what their reaction would be and was gratified to hear responses like, "Oh my goodness it is the most exhausting thing ever! I can't believe the lack of sleep!" I was silently laughing to myself, and thanking God that my kids are old enough that they sleep through the night. :)
Alyce...that is too funny. I don't think any of us realized what being a mother really involves until you experience it...LOL
ReplyDeleteMary...The Jonathan Tropper book was so much fun indeed.
Nomadreader...You can imagine how much I appreciated It's Complicated, being in my 50's like Baldwin and Steep...LOL
Thanks everyone else for all your sweet comments...Have a great week everyone.
Reconnecting with old friends is so much fun - have a great time! I still haven't seen It's Complicated..maybe this week? Great loot from the book sale - I see Pete Hammil and Louise Erdrich there. Enjoy!!
ReplyDeleteI've heard that It's Complicated is funny, definitely hpe to see it soon. I'm so jealous of all the great books you got for so cheap!
ReplyDeleteLook at all those books! No book shortage in your home. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy hearts day to you and your readers!
A high school friend and I met for lunch this week. We were both at the same conference. I'd not seen her in 35 years!
ReplyDeleteHave fun with your friends! Facebook had helped me reconnect with some people I had lost touch with over the years.
ReplyDeleteWhat a library sale! Enjoy your books! I loved Forever by Pete Hamill and have North River on my shelf to read soon.
Have a good week!
I've kept in touch with friends I've made throughout my long life apart from my modelling days. I didn't really make any friends then.
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by.
Have a fun reunion! and hope you love the Atwood as much as I did.
ReplyDeleteWhat excellent books you got there! The Blind Assasin is excellent as is Possession. I've heard good things about the Thread of Grace but haven't read it yet. Oh and I loved the film It' Complicated too! Love Meryl Streep.
ReplyDeletehappy valentine's-hope the luck holds out!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a wonderful week...no snow, great books cheap, meeting up with old friends!! and an award to boot!! You rock!
ReplyDeleteThat is the most amazing $6.50 haul there has ever been. Congratulations - deftly maneuvered!
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous time with your friends! Catching up and reminiscing will be so much fun...there will probably be lots of laughing, too, which is SO good.
ReplyDeleteHow fun to reconnect with your old friends!!! And what a nice bunch of books for a low low price! Sweet!
ReplyDeleteIt's Complicated was very, very funny and sweet. I love Meryl and Steve and Alec was hilarious. I went with my girlfriends but I am waiting for it to come out on DVD so that my husband can see it.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see It's Complicated! I love Meryl Streep! How wonderful, getting to see your old friends this week. I'm already finding it difficult to keep in touch with school friends and I only left five years ago! It's tough once work and life get in the way! I look forward to hearing how it goes.
ReplyDeleteLibrary sales are the best! And you've got a ton of books there that I loved. :D I'm jealous of The Boat-I really want to read that one!
ReplyDeletePossession is one of my all time favorites! Love, love that book. And Between, Georgia is laugh out loud funny! I reviewed it last year. Ohh, and the cover of By the Lake looks oh, so dark & mysterious! I need to look into that one!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your fantastic finds!
I love to get books for little or nothing and so many for 6 dollars and 50 cents. That's my idea of a great valentines day. :)
ReplyDeleteGah! This made me realize that I missed the book sale at my local library recently. So jealous of your haul! ;-)
ReplyDeleteYou are going to love Something Dangerous! It is the first of three, and I read all of them in a very short amount of time. Just great stories with really interesting characters. Vincenzi is a great writer. I also hope you have a great time catching up with your friends! I will look forward to reading about it next week!
ReplyDeleteWhat great books you found! The Blind Assassin is AMAZING, and I love Penny Vincenzi for an entertaining, slightly trashy -take-me-away sort of book.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, Happy Valentine's Day for yesterday! Secondly, It's Complicated was complicated; funny, yes, but it made me think. (What, exactly, constitutes an affair?)
ReplyDeleteAlso, you're the second person to mention Vincenzi's work. I just bought the first of the triliogy you showed here, No Angel, at my hairdresser's (!) recommendation. She said she absolutely could not put it down. So, that'll be something fun for us to talk about when I get it read.
Glad to hear that you enjoyed It's Comlpicated, and also are a new Vincenzi fan too.
ReplyDeleteI've heard that "It's Complicated" is good and very funny. It's on my list to see.
ReplyDeleteI love special event book sales. Our local YMCA has one every year and I always look forward to it.
How awesome that you get to meet up with old friends after so long! Have a great time!
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of friends--in the last 2 years I have been reconnecting with different friend groups. Through one of those serendipitous events 2 years ago, I am planning a reunion with a small group of HS friends of 35 years ago. Hunting them down wasn't as hard as I thought in this computer world.
ReplyDeleteIt's great when you can just pick right up where you left off!
I'm so very late! Sorry for not visiting earlier, Diane...
ReplyDeleteHappy Belated Valentine's Day!
Library sale? I like! Happy reading!
