Sunday Salon

It's been a while since I participated in the Sunday Salon, but I wanted to take the time to wish those of you who celebrate Passover or Easter, a happy holiday.

Do you have any plans for either holiday? We celebrate both Passover and Easter, but are having a low key holiday. Our condo house is in a state of disarray as we're in the midst of a pretty major painting project.

The painter has been here (3) days so far and probably another (2) maximum. Most of our rooms have cathedral ceilings so it's a bigger job than most. We had our kitchen, which opens to the dining room and  living room, and the staircase leading to the open loft from the living room painted a color called "alpaca", which is taupe/grey color. It looks fabulous with our white woodwork, so we are really pleased.  Our master bedroom, and master bath was painted a color called: "raindrop" which is in the blue/green family, almost an aqua --very pleased with that as well.  And, the final job this round, is our finished basement, and the walls will be a very very light blue color called "byte" (to be done on Monday/Tuesday).

And, since we were holed up in our family room yesterday while the painters were here, we watched The King's Speech, which we absolutely loved. I mean seriously, is there anyone who did not love this academy award winner?  I'm actually wanting to read the book as well now and see how closely it follows the true story. Has anyone read the book and seen the movie? What were your thoughts?

Can you guess what I've been doing instead of reading this week?  I am
totally addicted to the Scrabble app for iPhones. You can play against the computer, or play against your friends.  Lately, I've been played against my daughter, and we generally have (2) games going at a time.  Occasionally, at work, when I am doing a particularly mindless task, I am able to engage in a game of Scrabble as well.  Do any of you play Scrabble for iPhones? If you'd like to play sometime, email me: bibliophilebythesea AT gmail DOT com, and I'll invite you to play a game. We can complete it leisurely over the course of a few days as well, if that works out better for you.

As for my reading, I am still reading The Easter Parade, about (30) pages a day as I am really enjoying it and don't want to rush through it.  It has caused me to order several more books by Richard Yates.

I am also listening to a Stephen King book (totally not me), but I am hooked...LOL The title is Full Dark, No Stars, and the readers are awesome. I guess for me, sometimes you just have to shake things up a bit.

I did stay home from work on Monday and Tuesday after some mysterious bug, but I really just lazed around and was unable to focus on any reading those (2) days.

Did you have a good week?  This week's weather outlook is 70 degree weather, but rain, rain, rain. Hope your coming week is perfect. Thanks for stopping by.

  2. How nice to have some freshly painted rooms!

Diane, I really enjoy playing Scrabble on my iPhone--it's a great way to spend time. I'm addicted. So far, I've only played against "CPU".

I would love to see The King's Speech and will add it to my Netflix queue (if it's available).

    Have a lovely holiday weekend.

  3. I haven't read The King's Speech, but I loved the movie adaptation so much that I want to read the book too. I am glad that you're enjoying The Easter Parade. My favorite book by him is Revolutionary Road (loved the movie too!)

  4. Happy Easter, Diane! Our plans? We're moving...on Easter! Yep, that's right. =O) My sons are going to Easter dinner and the egg hunt with their Grandpa and my husband and I are slaving away. Oh, well...can't be helped.

I have Full Dark, No Stars, but haven't got around to it yet, of course. Can't wait to read it...as with all Stephen King books!

  5. Oooh, your new paint colors sound really nice. That taupe with the white woodwork is my favorite. I love the look of those two together. :-)

We watched The King's Speech last night and liked it very much. My husband does not usually enjoy historical dramas that much, but we both thought it was very well done. I'm not sure I knew there was a book, but how could I not have imagined that. I'll check it out. Have a good week, Diane!

  6. Your paint choices sound great, Diane. I'm sure you'll be glad to get your house back together. We loved The King's Speech - the kind of movie I love to see. I'll have to look for the Yates book. I'm not familiar with it. Have a good week!

  7. Happy Easter and Passover to you! Loved The King's Speech (why wouldn't I?) and am completely addicted to Scrabble on my iPhone. Although I do miss the lounge music from the last version just a little bit. I always play against the computer for fear that drawing others in will only create more of a time suck. :)

  8. I LOVED the King's Speech and thought every aspect of it was wonderful. As a friend of mine says, it's one of those British productions where you can "feel the fabrics".

You are the second person in as many days to tell me they are loving playing iPhone scrabble so now I'll have to see if I can get it for my iPad

  9. Happy Easter and Passover. We will have a quiet day since it will be just the two of us.

I play Words with Friends on my iPhone, but my son has told me the Scrabble app is superior.

  10. Happy holiday! I do hate the disarray of painting, but it's fun to see your home blossom into a new thing...

I like the sound of your condo. I once lived in a condo with a loft over the living room...I LOVED that loft.

When I left that place, I moved to the foothills for thirteen years, and now live in another condo. But no loft...sigh.

I want to see The King's Speech. Maybe today!

    Here's MY SUNDAY SALON POST

  13. We have The King's Speech in our Netflix queue, but need to move it to the top.

My husband plays scrabble on his ipad, and if I had access to it more often I would challenge you to a game. :) Maybe someday I'll have my own ipad.

  15. Happy Easter Diane! the King's Speech is next up in my Netflix queue and I'm clearing the decks for it next weekend.

I remember reading The Easter Parade several years ago, but it might be time for a dust-off or a look at some of Yates' other books. Thanks for the reminder.

  16. I wish we had 70 degree weather coming our way! My mother is addicted to the Scrabble ap as well and is trying to convince me to upgrade to an iPhone. I have yet to watch The King's Speech, but have heard nothing but good things. I hope you will share pictures of your new paint jobs, the colors sound great.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

  17. Happy Easter and Passover Diane. We celebrate both as well. I can't wait to watch The King's Speech. Good luck with the painting, the colors sound lovely. I have to check if the Scrabble app is available for the itouch. I am thinking about getting the iphone 3 as it's such a good price but now the iphone 5 will be coming out so I may wait.

  19. Happy Holidays! We have had a quiet Easter too, just the way we like to celebrate the holiday.

I have scrabble on my iphone but I never remember to play and sometimes don't even know it's my turn (I don't use my phone much...). I do enjoy a quick game of boggle! :)

I also enjoyed The King's Speech, solid choice!
