Reading Thoughts for 2019

Blogging about books for over 10 years now, I no longer join lots of reading challenges like I did early on, with the exception of the fall RIP Challenge that I've done every year since 2008. I do, however,  like to make some tentative lists in a new journal that keeps me somewhat on track during the year.

For 2019 here's my plans thus far:
  • Read or listen to at least 100 books (2) per week is more than doable being retired.
  • Read 4 (min)  Classics (2) by Dickens
  • Read 25 books (min) from my shelves (sounds easy but it's always a challenge for me)
  • Read 10  eGalleys  from 2018 or earlier(catching up on downloads)
  • Read 4-6 Summer Themed Books between Memorial Day and Labor Day)
  • Read 4 mysteries or thrillers for the RIP Challenge in Fall
  • Read 4 Christmas or holiday themed books in December
  • Continue my library book group (January's pick is Women in the Castle; Jessica Shattuck)
  • Join an online monthly read group (can you suggest some online group you enjoy?)

Do you have any plans in mind for 2019 reading?

  3. Oh I like your plans! I am still formulating mine and have a couple new ideas. I guess this week will be blogging about the end of 2018 and the beginning of 2019 for me. I have tried a few on-line discussion groups but just can't get with that format the way I can IRL discussion. One thing I always follow in March is the Tournament of Books. The list came out in December this year. You can find it at The Morning News site.

  4. Have I asked you before if you are a fast reader? ;<)))

    1. I think I'm pretty fast Nan, but not sure I'm a speed reader. I could read a 300 page book in about 3.5-4 hour if I wasn't interrupted which rarely happens -- bathroom, tea, and husband LOL

  5. Really liked The Women in the Castle. Got a chance to see the author live about a year ago when she was touring for the book.

    1. Great to hear this. I'm not a huge historical fan so sometimes it's a slog.

  7. I think have a few tentative aims & intentions, as opposed to all the reading goals, is the way to go when looking for an enjoyable reading year - low key, whilst still on track with certain things.

Happy 2019, and happy reading also!

  9. Love your goals - good luck with them. It's been a long time since I've been in an online book discussion group. Have no suggestions there. Wish all of my blogging friends could come be part of a face-to-face group here. Wouldn't that be fun? Take care, Diane!

    1. Kay, that would be so fun if blogging friends could meet in person to discuss books.

  10. Good luck with your 2019 goals, Diane. Sadly I don't know of any online reading group though I suppose one could be started on Facebook? Happy New Year to you.

    1. Thanks Cath, I used to belong to some Yahoo groups but that was 10 years ago or so.

  14. Good luck with all of these! I love the idea of reading holiday-themed books in December, and I totally failed to do that this year! Hopefully in 2019 I'll fare a little better!

  15. I'll just do the same GR challenge (100 books). We're retired too but life keeps throwing challenges so I rely on books for an escape. Not sure what I'd do if I didn't love to read!
    Happy New Year, Diane.

  17. I still do reading challenges, but I go into them with a different attitude than I used to. These days, I join the ones I think look fun. If I finish them, great. If I don't, no biggie. I used to stress over reading challenges, which is just silly!

  18. It's been many years (over a decade) since I belonged to an online book group. The last one I was a member of is called ontheporchswing and it's a Yahoo group. It was enjoyable, but I found it too hard to keep up with all the posts once I started following book blogs.
