Welcome to First Chapter/Intros, hosted by Yvonne @ Socrates Book Reviews. Each week readers post the first paragraph (or 2) of a book we are reading or plan to read soon.
Prologue
Christmas Night 2017
The carcass is spread in the middle of the table. Carved, flesh torn away, eaten, ribs exposed. The turkey when it was removed from the oven, is now just a pile of bones. Plates are smeared with gravy, wineglasses empty, stained red. A swath of maroon lipstick mars a white cloth napkin. The lights from the Christmas tree blink, manic.
I used to read everything Lisa Unger wrote but, it's been a while. This catchy title had somewhat of a creep factor for me so I added it to my RIP Challenge list. What do you think, read more of pass?
Wow, this one sounds good! The description is a little gory, but I am definitely intrigued.
ReplyDeleteThat Christmas meal was a little rough to read about LOL
DeleteI think I'd pass on that one.
ReplyDeleteYes, a rough intro but, I have high hopes.
DeleteI do like the sound of that one yes! I have only read one Lisa Unger so far, but I think I need to read more.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting us earlier Diane!
Elza Reads
I am looking forward to getting back to this author after several years away.
DeleteI'd need to know more. But I like the title of this one.
ReplyDeleteI liked the title as well, it had that creep factor in the title for some reason or maybe it's because I'm familiar with the author's stylr.
ReplyDeleteI really want to read this one. It sounds really good. It's on my wishlist.
ReplyDeleteI thought so as well Yvonne. Unger is good for creating an atmospheric thriller.
DeleteOh gosh that sounds creepy and very much something I'd like to read.
ReplyDeleteIt does sound creepy, I only read a couple of chapters so far but, I think it is going to be good.
DeleteThe beginning makes it sound perfect for the RIP Challenge.
ReplyDeleteI think so too Deb. The writing in that intro was so blunt and in your face. I can't imagine what is to come.
ReplyDeleteI've really enjoyed some of her books but like you, it's been a while since I've read any. I like the premise of this one so I do have it on my radar!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read her books in a while. That blurb definitely hold one's attention so I'll read on.
ReplyDeleteI finally read my first Unger not too long ago and am SO looking forward to this one!
ReplyDeleteThis one is on my TBR based off the blurb but I'm not so sure about that first paragraph! I look forward to seeing your review.
ReplyDeleteI'd pass. It sounds too manic for me.
