First Chapter First Paragraph Tuesday Intros - Shelter; Jung Yun

Every Tuesday I host First Chapter First Paragraph Tuesday Intros where I share the first paragraph sometimes   two of a book that I'm reading or plan to read soon.

Shelter; Jung Yun
Picador - 2016

PART ONE

DAWN

"The boy is standing in the doorway again.  He's smiling, which hardly seems right.  A smile means he's not sick.  He didn't have a bad dream.  He didn't wet the bed.  None of the things he usually says when he enters the room uninvited.  Kyung nudges his wife, who turns over with a grunt, face-first into her pillow.  He sighs and sits up, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.

What's wrong? he asks. What's the matter?"

What do you think -- keep reading or pass?

  2. The book's cover makes me want to look inside, and the opening makes me want to know more. Sounds like a good story.

  3. The mother sounds like me when my daughter wakes up too early. Haha. This sounds like it will be an emotional read, Diane. I hadn't heard of it before, but I think I might like this one.

  5. The first thing that attracted me was that cover, which I love! It's just beautiful, the way the image has been kind of "unfocused", so as to refer to a vague memory. Since I had never heard of this book before, I checked it out on Goodreads. WOW. It sure sound, like a powerful, emotional story!

The opening has a poignant tone to it I would definitely keep reading! :)

  15. Sorry I'm late in the day. This intro mystifies me. I have no idea how it's going to go. I feel for the wife though, remembering those days when I was waken in the middle of the night.
