Week in Review

Outside…
The week has been pretty warm and humid and, the pollen is everywhere. In fact our deck is yellow pollen dust so our cars stay in the garage as much as possible. It's really nice out today but, still the pollen so that means more time indoors except for a short walk.

Watching…
Once again, I didn't watch much television except for Jeopardy, a few episodes of House Hunters and yes, the news (such a sad week).  Ohhh - Did anyone watch the Belmont Race yesterday? I couldn't believe the masses of people crowded together and NO MASKS! What the heck?

FOLLOW-UP - OMG - (I just realized we watched last year's Belmont race as this year's race was postponed by 2 weeks - to be held on June 20th! LOL - good reason for no masks I guess)

Other highlights…
My knee finally began to feel back to near normal mid-week, I started PT and have some, at-home exercises to do 2X a day. Today, I actually walked about a half-mile for the first time in almost 4 weeks. I had to walk slower, not wanting to push it but, it feels pretty good still. Somehow I managed to lose 7lbs in May without dieting (fewer trips to the kitchen I suspect because of the painful knee).  FEELING GRATEFUL about my now pain free knee!
Today’s To Do List…
Hope to read some, take another walk, perhaps a little longer this time, and make a new shrimp recipe I found in the NY Times.  I made some corn chowder yesterday and we have enough left over to freeze some.
Retail Therapy...

No shopping online this week other than boring things. (You don't want to hear about our new thermometer and new face masks do you ? (I decided basic black is the easiest for both of us and they go with most everything, but boy, I kinda envy Nancy Pelosi's color coordinated face masks for all her many beautiful outfits) - LOL

How was your week?

  1. Pollen is a year-round problem here. Some plant or another is constantly sending pollen into the air, triggering our allergies. It's particularly bad for my husband now. We tried skipping our walks this week, but I don't think that helped my husband much.

Now that our library has curbside service, we have borrowed some old comedies and mysteries on DVD from there. We saw Woman of the Year with Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy and The Lady Vanishes, an old Alfred Hitchcock, this week. Both were new to me.

I'm glad your knee is much better. My stepmother is 91, and she has terrible knee problems. Her doctor told her she waited too long to have corrective surgery. She is in pain, and her doctor told her there is nothing they can do.

I'm glad to see you here today, Diane. I hope you will have a good week.

    1. Deb, I was thinking pollen was mostly a huge problem here in New England, sorry you guys must deal with it as well. I love those old movies and there are so many I have never seen. Sorry about your step-mother's knee issues:(

  2. I'm glad your knee is doing better. I think we need some retail therapy here!

  3. All therapies are good therapies if they make us feel better.

  4. I'm glad your knee is better, I'm still having problems with mine from time to time since I walk a lot at work.

I've been doing a lot of shopping online...groceries, bird feeders and birdbaths, baby things, household items, scrub tops, pet beds/food/treats/toys, and lots more. I'd hate to add up all the money I've spent lol!

  6. My mother in law never misses a Jeopardy show- it's her favorite. I agree that it is crazy how crowds are gathering for events during this crisis. I guess we will know if there is a big re- surge soon. Hope the knee continues to heal. Have a great week.

  9. LOL! I so wish we could get masks in many colors without having to rob a bank. It's crazy how much handmade ones cost but they are necessary so no complaints.

So glad that your knee is beginning to feel normal and that you were able to go for a good long walk. You go you!

  10. Congratulations on the lessening of your knee pain. From experience, I know how being pain-free after a period of hurting can make the world a much brighter place no matter what else is goin on around you. Happy for you.

    1. Sam, so true about knee pain, I couldn't feel happier despite what's going on. I really was starting to feel that I 'd never improve.

  11. I am constantly amazed when I see people gathering in groups and NOT wearing masks. I just don't understand our world anymore. I'm glad your knee is doing better and congrats on losing the weight! I've gained a couple of pounds this year, but not as much as I thought I might since I'm not playing pickleball three times a week. I try to walk every day (usually between 3-5 miles) and have started riding my bike a few times a week, too. Please share the shrimp recipe, if it's a winner. I made Shrimp Scampi & Orzo last night. We usually have it twice a month and we aren't tired of it yet! A friend bought a 5-pack of masks from Johnny Was and gave me one, which I love. I may buy more so I have some variety. :) Be well. Stay safe.

  12. I didn't see the race but it doesn't surprise me- when I've been out it's mind boggling to me how many people are going without masks and just acting like no big deal. I really hope this virus doesn't roar back with all this.

Hope the pollen lets up some. That can be so awful with allergies...

    1. I don't understand why people don't take this more seriously, if not for themselves for their older, sicker, loved ones.

    2. Greg,- I just checked and we actually watched last year's race when they ran it last Saturday! LOL (I'm so mad at the hub for making me sit there) LOL

  13. I'm so glad that your knee is feeling better. Was the pain worth the 7 pounds? Our next door neighbor is a cardiologist at the Cleveland Clinic and after all of these months dealing with hospital weirdness he has to have knee surgery for a tear in his knee.
I don't understand these gathering of people with no masks. It just makes me feel like we can't go out safely and that makes me cranky. My mom made us a few masks so I have a few to choose from but nothing as fancy as Nancy :)
    Take care this week!

    1. Hmm, Stacy, was the knee pain worth losing 7lbs? NO - I would have rather kept the extra weight LOL

  14. When you said face masks I was like, yes! I want to hear about them thinking they were beauty masks. LOL.

The seven lbs you lost found me. I was up ten lbs as of last week but today, after strict meal planning I am down three. I would like to go back to work even less than I was when I left but in all honesty, I got so totally bored with weight watchers. I was not motivated and although I felt like I didn't eat much I was snacking more.

    1. Weight is such a difficult thing to manage after 45 or 50. I gained 1 of the 7 back already.

  15. I finally found masks that I like: Johnny Was is selling packs of 5 for $25 (and then donates 5 to medical workers). They are his left over materials so are really pretty.

  17. I'm exactly the same with more time indoors thanks to the pollen... Most people check the weather of a morning, for me it's the pollen count.

Wonderful news to hear your knee is slowly on the mend! May that recovery continue well.

Always love when I make a meal with leftovers to freeze. And although the online purchases may be boring, they are most definitely important.

A lovely week to you - reading & otherwise.
