A few things that made me do the happy dance this week.
My SIL had the genetic test performed (3) weeks ago to see whether she carries the BRCA gene, which increases the risk of breast and ovarian cancer. Her mother had breast cancer at 40, and she had it at 39, and again at 69. Since she only has (1) child, a daughter, now (45) it was important for them to find out whether she carried the gene. She doesn't -- thankfully, but it still does not explain why she had breast cancer twice. She is super relieved, that her daughter does not have to worry more (than she already does) about developing breast or ovarian cancer.
BTW: She does not need chemo or radiation, and will be on some hormone therapy pills for the next five years, as a preventative measure for future cancers.
Is there anyone, except (former) President Mubarak, who wasn't happy about what occurred yesterday?
Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, -- This audio book is such a wonderful treat; I've smiled a lot listening to it over the last (2) days. You must try it if you like audio books. I'll be through with it by Sunday, and will be sad about that for a bit.
New photo of my "grandcats" sent to me this week --
Buddy (left) and (3)-legged Rae (right)
New best buddies
My husband got this as one of his Hanukkah gifts, and wasn't sure what to buy with it, so he purchased an Amazon Gift card (at Best Buy) with it (FOR ME)....what a guy! Can you say...Kindle Books :)
And, as reward for enduring some 40" of snow thus far this winter, we decided to reward ourselves with a trip to San Diego, California in May. Neither of us has been to San Diego -- just San Francisco (me) and Malibu (he), so this should be lots of fun. If any of you live in the San Diego area and would like to share your must see thoughts with us, we'd appreciate it. So far we plan to: see a ball game at PETCO park, visit Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo, Seaport Harbor and Harbor Tour, Gas Light Village and just relax by the pool a lot as well.
Have a great weekend everyone. Hope you do a lot of smiling!
Hi Diane -
ReplyDeleteAs a native San Diegan I'd like to share a few of my favorite sights that you may want to consider visiting.
Sea World (on Mission Bay)
The Birch Aquarium (at Scripps in La Jolla) La Jolla (which means The Pearl) is gorgeous and much to see! http://www.sandiego.org/article_set/Visitors/8/113
Balboa Park - The Museums! (these are near the zoo)
Old Town http://www.oldtownsandiegoguide.com/
If you like Thai food you must go to Taste of Thai in Mission Hills (near Balboa Park). It's my favorite.
Hearing the good news about your SIL made me smile :)
I'm glad to hear your SIL is doing good.
ReplyDeleteWe were in San Diego last year. Balboa Park was cool, as was the Zoo. We stayed on Coronado, which is also worth seeing. The hotel there is old, cool and supposedly haunted. My brother is stationed in Oceanside, so we were there this Thanksgiving, but didn't make it to San Diego on that trip.
Thank you for a smiley post!
ReplyDeleteYou need to go to Old Town San Diego and especially Rockin' Baja Lobster for dinner.
ReplyDeleteSuch good news for your SIL, Diane! And what a sweetheart your hubby was to buy you an amazon card. We stayed on Coronado (at the Hotel del Coronado - where Some Like It Hot was filmed eons ago. They have a channel at the hotel that plays only the movie, lol). We also went to Sea World, Old Town, the zoo. Have a wonderful time!!
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful news! I'm jealous of your trip - my parents met and fell in love in San Diego.
ReplyDeletethat sweet photo of your grand cats made me smile...
ReplyDeleteI am so glad to hear the good news about your SIL! And, wasn't the Egypt stuff great? Let's just hope it continues on so that the people get what they want: a lift of the State of Emergency and free and fair elections. San Diego is a great idea!
ReplyDeleteYeah, the snow. Us too.
ReplyDeleteSan Diego is certainly something fun and warm to look forward to!
I'll second the recommendation for walking around the Hotel del Coronado. It's a lovely old hotel, and a good place to sit on the patio and have a drink.
ReplyDeleteany husband who knows how happy a $75 gift card to Amazon will make his wife is a keeper!! ;) I've never been to San Diego...just San Francisco a bazillion times. Will be looking forward to experiencing your trip vicariously :)

Your post made me smile. Loved the kitties, the good news about no need for chemo, Miss Pettigrew in audio, and the gift card for Amazon from your hubby. Looks like Valentine's Day came early to your house! ;)

So happy to hear about your SIL! That is really, really good news. That is exciting about San Diego. It is one of my favorite cities in California. I would definitely plan to visit the beach at La Jolla and walk through the little town there. There are many good shops and restaurants. I really like going over to Coronado too!
