At the Movies - September 2018

Operation Finale was my husband's pick this month and, although I didn't think I would care for it, I thought it was very well done. Based on true story in 1960, a group of Israeli Mossad spies travel to Argentina and capture Nazi officer, Adolph Eichmann (played by Ben Kingsley) , who was responsible for carrying out some of the most terrible crimes of the Holocaust.  There isn't a lot of action in this movie but, for me, it was a refresher of yet another painful time in history.

We loved Fahrenheit 11/9Michael Moore connects the dots and makes sense about our last presidential election. This film is not a total Trump bashing as some might expect. The documentary interviews some had and forgotten Americans and hits the democratic party, including President Obama pretty hard at times as well. There is also time spent of the Flint, MI water poisoning fiasco and coverups, the Parkland shootings and the building momentum of the new grassroots movements in politics today.

In case anyone is interested in knowing more about this film, here is a very good recap by CBS.

Have you seen any movies lately?

  3. I have to be in the mood for the Moore film! Glad you liked it. We enjoyed The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society on Netflix. A really good one I recommend.

  4. Operation Finale would be my pick. I didn't know about this movie. I read a nonfiction book about how the Eichmann capture happened. Interesting stuff. I'll put it on my wishlist.

  7. I can't watch anything of a political nature these days. I get all twitchy and anxious.

  8. I saw the movie version of Bel Canto by Ann Patchett. In fact one of my reading groups read the book, saw the movie together, and discussed the two. It was an excellent day, though as usual the book is better than the movie. I did like the movie and Julianne Moore was wonderful as the opera singer.

  9. I hadn't heard of Operation Finale before - it sounds interesting - good cast, too!

I have, of course, been hearing a lot about Michael Moore's latest - good to know it is worth watching!

We watched Ocean's 8 last weekend & enjoyed it:

  10. The movies we watched this week were a bit lighter than yours! We saw Deadpool 2 and Jurassic World. Oh, and Infinity Wars. All were very entertaining. Not sure I'm up for the political films you shared here.

  11. I'm glad you talked about Michael Moore's latest. So much blame to go around 2016 election-time and I'm glad he takes a look. Wasn't sure I wanted to see it, but now I do :)
