Sunday Blatherings

Charles Dickens and Virginia Woolf
(who would have thought they were an item?)

It's been a super busy week around these parts.  This week my oldest granddaughter started pre-school and no one expected that a few tears were to be shed by (17 month old) sister who watched her sister take some giant steps.  Bittersweet, but big sister loves preschool and had no adjustment issues which was so nice.

We
spent some time at the zoo this week but it was somewhat disappointing compared to a few years ago -- granted, it's not a huge zoo, but it's clean and fun for little ones. Wednesday I picked up my new car. It's been 8 years since I got my last new car so I was about due. I love all of the technology that I guess is just about standard in many cars these day. My favorite features are the Bluetooth technology that reads my text messages to me and with voice control I allows me to auto call the sender without taking my eyes off the road. The moon roof and (7) airbags are pluses as well.  Rides smooth, handles well and I feel safe.

We also managed to work out and meet my son, DIL and youngest granddaughter for lunch. She's quite the crack up.

We also took a road trip to the Berkshires which included a visit to the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, MA. It was picture perfect weather .  The grounds are fabulous and the museum was great as well. Of course the historic Red Lion Inn was a must visit  stopover. Terrific place to relax and dine.

With a full day of football in store for my husband, Patriots Game at 1:00 and Eagles game this evening, I am happy to report I'll have the day free to do as I please -- no complaints here. What's your plans for today?

  1. I think the Rockwell museum would be a neat visit, and wouldn't mind seeing the Red Lion either. Congrats on the new car!

    1. Thanks Greg. We visited the Rockwell Museum about 18 years ago, but we were due for this repeat visit. They always have other artist's collections on loan as well. The grounds are magnificent.

  2. Aw, your granddaughters are so cute!

What kind of car did you get? Both Carl and I have Bluetooth in our cars but we find it works so poorly we don't even connect our phones to it.

  3. That's too sweet about the sister not wanting the oldest to go. I'm glad the oldest had no transition issues. That's always such a relief. The Norman Rockwell Museum sounds fascinating and I love the outside of the studio. The light must be amazing. Have a great week and enjoy your new car!

    1. Seeing the inside of the studio was easy to see how he got his inspiration.

    2. Laurel - We were in this quaint store this weekend and these dolls were among various literary ones for sale. Poe was another one that was kind of awesome.

  6. Love your oldest granddaughter's back pack! So cute!

Congrats on the new car! I just missed the new wave of cool car technology when I bought my car, so I'll be looking forward to getting the Bluetooth in my next ride!

  7. The Norman Rockwell museum is on my list of possible day trips this fall (kind of a long day though)... have been wanting to visit for years.

The picture of your granddaughters is just precious! Glad the older one loves preschool, but hard to believe she is that old already.

    1. Joann, the Berkshires is a pretty fall trip, I remember you saying you visited Edith Wharton's estate, but then I imagine your foliage is pretty spectacular as well

The sisters are precious and sweet together.

      Have a great week.

  8. Ah, nice, a new car! I'm envious. I'm still driving my old 2001 - but it's still "new" with only 38k miles on it. That's what happens when one commutes by train for 20 years. I like the car but the tech is lacking. High tech in 2001 was a CD player.

Speaking of 'tech', I'm installing a new internet router this afternoon. Hopefully it will be easy and I won't disappear for days!

    1. Leslie, I felt guilty trading in my problem free 2007 Nissan Altima with only 52,000 miles. She was a good car. But, I do love my new baby.

  12. Your granddaughters are cuter than cute!! Your trip looks like fun! Our zoo is a bit small too, especially since I grew up going to the Columbus Zoo in Ohio. But it is nice to take the grandkids to, or to just spend a day walking around. I'm looking for a car. I just sold the van I drove my husband around in so I'm looking for a car. In the meantime I'm driving my sons car. What kind of car did you get?
