Waking Up in New England this Morning

It was snowing lightly when I went to bed last night and when I woke up, I was shocked to say the least. 10" of new snow fell here, making the total, since Christmas somewhere around 30".Work is delayed just 2 hours since most of our students live on campus.  Here are a few photos, I thought some of you might enjoy, a bit more than me :(
More snow coming on Saturday.

well, you get the picture by now I'm sure

Off to get ready for work. At least it will be a short day! Stay warm everyone.  I envy those of you in warm weather climates --right about now.  PLEASE tell me what the weather is like where you live.

  1. Well, it's in the 20s and there is snow on the ground but not nearly what you have and are getting. I heard schools were closed in NY, and DC and am surprised libraries are open in New England.

Beautiful pictures - too lovely to mar with footprints and tire marks!

  2. The pictures are beautiful. We have pretty much the same weather here on Long Island but to tell you the truth I'm already sick of the snow.

  3. Whew! That roof picture has me cringing! I live in Ontario and so far we're just getting some harmless flakes, nothing major. It's coming down, but nothing like what you've got!

  4. We are expecting 77 degree weather today. High winds, but warm. So sorry you are dealing with the cold right now but it sure is pretty to look at!

  5. Hmm...you sure you want to know about my weather?? LOL

OK, in Austin, TX right now it is 39 degrees, clear blue skies, and it's supposed to be 67 this afternoon. Perfect golf weather. If it helps, we are in the midst of one of our worst allergy times of the year - mountain cedars are pollenating and I have a horrendous allergy to that pollen.

    Good luck, Diane!

  6. My weather is grey and overcast, and I love it like this in January. About 4" of snow on the ground where I live in lower Michigan.

  7. I live in New Hampshire so my surroundings are just like yours, of course. I tutor after school in Manchester so I anxiously watched the cancellation list on tv and I'm tutoring and dog walking even in the deep snow!

  8. WOW, feels like a day for reading, well, after the shoveling:)

It's cold here in Michigan, but not much snow...yet!

    Is Spring around the corner...yet?

  9. Oh my goodness, all that snow is beautiful! I am probably only saying that because I live in FL, and have never really seen snow like that before! Very cool pics!

  10. Beautiful to look at, I can't say Im missing all the snow we have had though.

  11. Ahhh, I LOVE snow. Wish it landed on us here in Ohio.

  12. I'm a little jealous! I was hoping that storm would hit Albany, but it ended up south and east of us. I know I'm in the minority, but I love the cold and snow. There's something magical and invigorating about it for me. I will say, after a few days of -15 lows and highs of 3 or 5, it feels warm in the high 20's!

  13. Beautiful pictures. It will be another 70 degrees today. I will lay out in the sun for ya :)

  14. Those photos are gorgeous (except the roof shot, I don't envy you that job). It's nothing like that here in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. We alternate between times of rain and then cooler weather (in the 30s). Right now it's 39 and foggy. It's been foggy for days. Sometimes it will be foggy for weeks and we won't see the sun at all. When it finally breaks through the fog it feels like a joyous occasion. :)

  15. While I don't envy you the work of digging out, I do wish we would get a good snow here. I love it! (as long as I'm inside and warm). Forecast today for SW Kansas - sunny with a high of 68. No snow in that picture!

  16. It is so odd to me that folks go to work in this sort of weather. Here in GA we shut everything down for 4 inches of snow!

    Stay warm!

  17. Beautiful, hope you are reading a good book today. But since you asked -- here in Las Vegas we're having another full day of sunshine, no clouds, high today 61tomorrow 67. I'll send some warm thoughts your way :)

  18. Diane, stay warm and safe!! That is an incredible amount of snow!!

  19. The snow is beautiful, but wow! And you are expecting more. (I don't think I should mention the nice weather here in So Cal.) :)

  20. Your pictures are beautiful. I am so envious. We are in the only part of Britain that very rarely has snow. Though we did have a few snowflakes this morning.

  21. Yep, that's a lot of snow. We keep being promised snow here on the Upper Cape, but it keeps just turning into rain. And slush. And ice.

  22. I love the snow pictures.

It has been colder here today than the past week and we had a handful of flakes of snow today.

    keep warm and well

  23. I feel so bad for you. The East Coast has really gotten slammed this year.

We have been lucky in Michigan. When it snows (like it is now) we get about 3 inches here and there. We have yet to get any giant storms this year like you have had. Sometimes I kind of like them (but not as many as you have had)...
I like to have an excuse to stay in and be cozy....
We are getting about an inch tonight...tomorrow maybe a couple inches and 3 inches on Saturday.
    Stay warm and cozy!

  24. I'm not about to begin to complain about our weather...the East Coast has just been socked hard this winter!!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. east Coast AND the Midwest have been hit hard. We too are sitting on a ton of snow here in Minnesota.

    I dream of tropical vacations.

  26. We were supposed to get Trace - 2 inches and we got ZIP - nothing - and the weather was nice enough that I drove over to New London (45 minutes away one way) to see Mom.

It was a bright sunny day here...

  27. So much snow! That's more than we got in Wisconsin today, although it was still a mess here.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Just remember...you asked!

It's been in the mid-70s all week. Hard to believe it's winter!

    ReplyDelete
  29. That's a lot of snow!! I live in Malaysia and it's always hot here (and the occassional rain). But I used to go to school in New York, so I know what you mean by having to go out so early in the morning with inches of snow ...

    ReplyDelete
  30. I was praying for snow here. I wanted to stay home for a change. Sigh.. just a quarter inch - can you imagine?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Your pictures tell the story ;)

I was shocked by how much snow we had this morning - it had barely started by 11pm last night!

No school for the kids, and the sun was shining ... lots of time outdoors.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Woah that is a lot of snow! Pretty though :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. My house looks like yours. We are also expecting more snow later today, and the mounds are already so high, we don't know where we are going to put it.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Oh my goodness! The pictures are pretty, but my whiskers are shivering!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Well, here in Canada, we're actually experiencing some warmish weather, -10 today, the snow is not as deep as you have, but as you say we're getting more. We've had about 20inches this month. I love the way it looks, but hate walking/going to work in it. Thanks for stopping by my blog, I'd send you Russian Winter, but it was a library read. You'll enjoy it I'm sure.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Oh my, I'm shivering as I scroll through your picrures. Brrrr. By comparison, it feels positively tropical here in Northern California - a blanket of thick fog covering almost everying in sight.

    ReplyDelete
  37. SO beautiful!! We have bright, bright, bright sunshine today (the 28th) with temps in the high-twenties. Perfect really.

    ReplyDelete
  38. OH my goodness!! I simply can't imagine 10 inches in a day, let alone 30 inches in a month! I do like getting snow occasionally, but I also like that it's 60 degees when I leave work these days (could change with a blink of an eye in Texas, though....)

    Stay warm!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. After several near misses, we got about 10 inches on Wed. night (and the power was out for 15 hours -- no fun). Stay warm!

  40. I am in Manila-record cold here is maybe 70F-below 80 people where jackets!

  41. Hi Diane,

We tend to get very little snow, here in the South of the UK, although both last year and this year so far. have been the exceptions.

I am amazed that you folks carry on with normal life with such great snowfalls, whereas here everything comes to a standstill when just a couple of inches falls.

I gues we are just not geared up to tackle something which happens so rarely.

Today our weather is dull, damp, dreary and freezing cold with a very biting wind.

  42. That is gorgeous!! I live in Casper, Wyoming and today it got to 55 here, which is highly unusual for January!

    ReplyDelete
  43. We actually had a sunny day with a high around 55 yesterday! And they are predicting 3-5 inches of snow and a low of 10 degrees by Tuesday. That is typical of Midwest weather!

Your pictures are beautiful, although I am sure that you are a bit tired of shoveling at this point.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Beautiful! But I understand what a pain it is to get around in. Today is sunny in Vegas. It says it's 35 but will get to 68. Yesterday it was too warm for my jacket. I'll try and send you some sun!

    ReplyDelete
  45. The picture of the tree branches covered in snow is beautiful....the others look rather familiar! lol

I haven't heard that we're supposed to get snow today or tonight, I hope not. I hope you don't either.

    Hang in there!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I could definitely see that you would not be enjoying these types of views anymore!! Jeesh ... hope it ends for you soon.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I understand what a pain snow can be; my landscape looks like this for a good part of the year! It's pretty, but rarely convenient!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'm in Chicago so we have snow all the time. I think there's been snow on the ground all winter and there is a huge storm headed our way this week. I've pretty had it with trying to make my way to work in this mess and will arrange to work at home for the next storm. Sigh.

The pictures are lovely and that is about all snow is good for... pictures on the first day.

    ReplyDelete
  49. We've had 50's the past couple of days, but there is storm coming through in a couple of days and the HIGH on Tuesday is supposed to be -5.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Well the snow looks beautiful to me but that is easy for me to say given that we have temps in the 60's in California today.

    ReplyDelete
  51. It's gloomy and wet in the UK at 2 degrees. I love snow. I'd rather have snow than rain. :)
