August Reading in Review

August was my worst reading month of 2010. Hot weather, feeling in a bit of a funk at times, all seemed to play a part. I didn't complete any new challenges, but I only have (3) that I have not finished at this time....sadly, (2) are ones I am hosting!

Of the (12) books I did read.........
  • (3) were audio books
  • (0) non fiction -- a first I think!
  • (4) Library Books
  • (8) review books
  • (0) TBR stacks - pathetic
Completed Books
  1. The Good Daughters; Joyce Maynard - 5/5  - (Favorite Book of the month)
  2. The Lion; Nelson DeMille - 4/5 (audio)
  3. Such a Pretty Face; Cathy Lamb - 4.5/5
  4. Neighborhood Watch; Cammie McGovern - 4/5
  5. The Gendarme; Mark Mustian -4.5/5
  6. A Friend of the Family; Lauren Grodstein (audio) 4/5
  7. The Good Psychologist; Noam Shpancer - 4/5
  8. Fragile; Lisa Unger - 4/5
  9. I Thought You Were Dead; Pete Nelson - 5/5 (Favorite audio Book of 2010)
  10. A Secret Kept; Tatiana de Rosnay - 2.5/5
  11. Room; Emma Donoghue - 4.5/5
  12. Mr. Peanut; Adam Ross (no review yet).... a lot to think about!
In July, I made a list of (10) books I wanted to read in August, and I read and reviewed 6 out of 10. The ones that did not get read will be moved to my list of September Hopefuls:
  1. Displaced Persons; Schwarz
  2. City of Veils; Zoe Ferrais
  3. The Language of Trees; Ilie Ruby
  4. Ape House; Sara Gruen
others that I hope to read in September are:

  1. Ooh, you've got some books on here that I really want to read, i.e. City of Veils! And I can't wait to hear your thoughts on The House at Riverton and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo next month!

  2. The Gendarme and Room are both books on my TBR. The House at Riverton I have read and found it excellent. I do hope you like it too.

  4. Well the irony is of course that your worst reading month of the year was my best - we just traded months :) There's always next month, and you still read a lot!

  5. This has been my worst reading month as well. I'm hoping as the weather gets colder I'll hunker down on my couch and read more. I don't venture outside in the winter unless I have to!

I've got Room on my list. Can't wait to read it.

  6. I didn't have a great month either, but some is still better than none.

Mine will be posted at 10 pm est

  7. I seem to read more in the summer than winter, but perhaps I'm just seeing a blog related increase in reading and that will increase into the winter months?

I wasn't a fan of the Larsson or Morton, but I think you might enjoy them more than I did. I hope your reading picks up next month :-)

  10. August was my worst reading month too - just 3. :) I think it is an August syndrome. Something or the other happens to everyone. Probably a back to school problem, off to a new life problem, end of summer problem - you name it.

  11. Oh the irony. August was a great reading month for me (in terms of quantity, at least), and I read only half the amount of books you read in your "bad" month. ;-)

  12. Summer months are always difficult for me when it comes to reading. I usually have visions of reading a ton of books (probably recalling long summers in the country from childhood). Reality is that I have two kids at home and twice as much housework to do in the summer time. Concentrating on reading is more of a challenge. All that said, you did far better than I did in August - I mostly read YA titles.

  13. I traded a friend for her copy of MR. PEANUT, but I haven't yet read it. Your comments about it are interesting ... I'll stay tuned for more :)

(I was on vacation for 2 weeks, brought 20 books with me - plus the nook - and read only two books!)

  16. Sorry this was your worst month. Fingers crossed September turns out better for you. I think I probably should keep track of the amount I buy and spend on books next year, I'm sure I would be very very shocked. haha

  18. Great reading month in August! I experienced a slight improvement for the month and hope it'll continue to be like that until the end of the year. Happy reading in September!
