2011 Reading from My Shelves Project

Several bloggers have asked my to host this challenge once again, and although I was planning to back off on challenges,  this was one I was very successful with, and it helped me to clean off (90) books from my TBR shelves as well.

Here are the details if you are interested:

  • Challenge runs from January 1 - December 31, 2011.
  • Read books from your own shelves, and then pass the books on to someone else: a friend, relative, the library, used book store, swap them, just as long as the book leaves your house once it has been read.
  • Decide on your goal (12 is the minimum - no maximum). Cross over books are allowed.
  • Grab the button and do a post about the challenge.
  • Keep a running list of the books you've read and passed on.
  •  Leave a comment with a link to your post and you are entered  (no Mr. Linky).
  • Have Fun and GOOD LUCK!

  4. I'm tempted. It makes sense. I so enjoy when I dust off a book from my shelf. Really, why on earth am i holding on to so many??

  5. Wow, 90 books! You did so well. I got 68 off my shelves and actually hope to get a couple more off before the 29th when I do my year end wrap up post. I'm signing up again for this one. Thanks for hosting, Diane and thanks for visiting PPP today. I'm feeling pretty good ( for an old lady) Lol!

  7. I'm going to be doing something on similar lines in 2011, ie. reading books from my shelves, but no way could I bear to part with most of them. Some of them, yes, I usually donate ones I won't read again to a charity shop, but many I will want to re-read at some stage. So I will be doing my own variation of this challenge - the important thing for me is to get round to reading those books which have been piling up.

  9. This is sooo tempting! It kind of coincides with me vowing silently to myself not to buy any more NEW books before reading what I have! ;-)

You did great at 90!! I'm going to seriously think about this. Thanks for hosting! It's always nice when someone takes the bull by the horns!

  10. Always a great idea. I'm going on a Shelfari Hunt this year and reading from my shelves as well, but wanted to tweak it a bit and make it fun for myself.

  11. I could do with a general cllleaning of my TBR pile, wwhich I am nto adding to. Did pretty good in 2010 but stopped when I finished the challenge

  12. I will participate in spirit! I'm not taking on any more challenges, but one of my reading goals for 2011 is to read more of what I already have on my shelves and then pass along as much as I can. So I'll be doing it too, even if I'm not officially signed up!

  21. Can't wait to participate again this coming year. This challenge really helped me whittle down my shelf last year (until I started swapping on paperbackswap that is).

  26. I'm in on this one. I wish I'd joined in 2010 but at least I'm in for next year. I love the whole idea of passing on books to others. Thanks for hosting this one. My goal is to read and pass on at least 20 books.

    My post is HERE.

  27. I'm participating. I would like to read 25 books from my shelves. I think that is a good goal for me.

  35. Good Luck with this challenge! I can't believe you read 90 books for this one in 2010... I think I read 25 books in 2010 and listened to about 30 (for the entire year).

  36. I'm in again, even though you'll see from my post I only was half way successful last year.

  43. I'm in, informally, since I had already decided to deliberately not stress about challenges and read the TBR pile I have amassed. I did a pretty good job this past year reading books and then sending them on their way but there is room for improvement.

  45. This is a challenge I really need. I have stacks of books I really have to start diving into and passing on. Thank you for hosting. (My husband will be very happy that my side of the bed won't be a landmine of books on the floor.)

I'm posting my challenges this week and this will be at the top of the list.

  50. I am aiming for 20! Really need to buy less and read my own more. First one this year was bought in 1996! (Price sticker was dated.) Here is my challenges page; http://carolinebookbinder.blogspot.com/p/reading-challenges.html

  51. I'm adding myself with trepidation. I told myself don't enter too many challenges this year but I see this one as a chance to clear the shelf. I especially like the part about "give the book away" when you are done with it. Here goes. I'll aim for the minimum-12.
