Several bloggers have asked my to host this challenge once again, and although I was planning to back off on challenges, this was one I was very successful with, and it helped me to clean off (90) books from my TBR shelves as well.
Here are the details if you are interested:
- Challenge runs from January 1 - December 31, 2011.
- Read books from your own shelves, and then pass the books on to someone else: a friend, relative, the library, used book store, swap them, just as long as the book leaves your house once it has been read.
- Decide on your goal (12 is the minimum - no maximum). Cross over books are allowed.
- Grab the button and do a post about the challenge.
- Keep a running list of the books you've read and passed on.
- Leave a comment with a link to your post and you are entered (no Mr. Linky).
- Have Fun and GOOD LUCK!
I am so in! This works perfectly with my attempt in the coming year to read off my TBR list/shelf. Here's the link to my sign up post:

Wow, you did great with this challenge! I am just about to reach 20 and then I think I will throw in the towel for 2010 :)
ReplyDeleteI'm in! Here's my post:

Thanks for hosting, Diane!
I'm tempted. It makes sense. I so enjoy when I dust off a book from my shelf. Really, why on earth am i holding on to so many??
ReplyDeleteWow, 90 books! You did so well. I got 68 off my shelves and actually hope to get a couple more off before the 29th when I do my year end wrap up post. I'm signing up again for this one. Thanks for hosting, Diane and thanks for visiting PPP today. I'm feeling pretty good ( for an old lady) Lol!

ReplyDeleteI must do better this year!!!
I'm going to be doing something on similar lines in 2011, ie. reading books from my shelves, but no way could I bear to part with most of them. Some of them, yes, I usually donate ones I won't read again to a charity shop, but many I will want to re-read at some stage. So I will be doing my own variation of this challenge - the important thing for me is to get round to reading those books which have been piling up.
ReplyDeleteI am in! Need to get rid of some books this year...

This is sooo tempting! It kind of coincides with me vowing silently to myself not to buy any more NEW books before reading what I have! ;-)
ReplyDeleteYou did great at 90!! I'm going to seriously think about this. Thanks for hosting! It's always nice when someone takes the bull by the horns!
Always a great idea. I'm going on a Shelfari Hunt this year and reading from my shelves as well, but wanted to tweak it a bit and make it fun for myself.
ReplyDeleteI could do with a general cllleaning of my TBR pile, wwhich I am nto adding to. Did pretty good in 2010 but stopped when I finished the challenge
ReplyDeleteI will participate in spirit! I'm not taking on any more challenges, but one of my reading goals for 2011 is to read more of what I already have on my shelves and then pass along as much as I can. So I'll be doing it too, even if I'm not officially signed up!
ReplyDeleteI need to join this challenge! I'll come back once I've posted about it. I presume that the books we read can overlap with other challenges?
ReplyDeleteDiane, I so need this challenge-LOL!! Count me in!

Thanks!

Can't wait to participate again this coming year. This challenge really helped me whittle down my shelf last year (until I started swapping on paperbackswap that is).
ReplyDeleteWow - you did great with this challenge in 2010. I'm curious to see how well you do in 2011.
ReplyDeleteI desperately need to read from my shelves so sign me up. I've posted here: http://myreadingroom-crystal.blogspot.com/2010/12/2011-challenge-reading-from-my-shelves.html
ReplyDeleteCount me in...! This is great. Thanks for hosting. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm in! Goal: 12
ReplyDeleteI need the incentive to read my own books. Thanks for hosting.

I'm in on this one. I wish I'd joined in 2010 but at least I'm in for next year. I love the whole idea of passing on books to others. Thanks for hosting this one. My goal is to read and pass on at least 20 books.
ReplyDeleteMy post is HERE.
I'm participating. I would like to read 25 books from my shelves. I think that is a good goal for me.

I'm in for this one, what a great way to finally get my TBR pile down and my shelves cleaned off, so I can buy some more. Thanks for hosting this one. Think I'll try to read 30+ books for this challenge./bj
ReplyDeleteI'm in again Diane!! Thanks for hosting again!! 90 is amazing!!! It helped me clear 30 last year so I'm hoping for the same again!
ReplyDeletehttp://kristinasfavorites.blogspot.com/2010/12/reading-from-my-shelves-challenge-2011.html
This is a fantastic challenge. I my goal will be 12 books, but that does not mean I will stop there once I reach my goal. :)

Just what I was looking for. I'm in and my goal is 70 books. My blog:

I'm joining in the fun. My post will go up on the 1st.
ReplyDeleteMy post is up. I'm signing up for 12.

Good Luck with this challenge! I can't believe you read 90 books for this one in 2010... I think I read 25 books in 2010 and listened to about 30 (for the entire year).
ReplyDeleteI'm in again, even though you'll see from my post I only was half way successful last year.

I am in again this year... this sure saved me a ton of money last year and I was able to purge lots from my shelves and share them around. :) http://academy252.blogspot.com/2011/01/books-for-new-year.html
ReplyDeleteI am in again this year. I didn't do so well last year but I hope to do better this year.
ReplyDeletehttp://bookaholicmom.blogspot.com/2011/01/reading-from-my-shelves-challenge-2011.html
I'm in, informally, since I had already decided to deliberately not stress about challenges and read the TBR pile I have amassed. I did a pretty good job this past year reading books and then sending them on their way but there is room for improvement.
ReplyDeleteI'm officially in :)

Thanks for hosting!
This is a challenge I really need. I have stacks of books I really have to start diving into and passing on. Thank you for hosting. (My husband will be very happy that my side of the bed won't be a landmine of books on the floor.)
ReplyDeleteI'm posting my challenges this week and this will be at the top of the list.

I am aiming for 20! Really need to buy less and read my own more. First one this year was bought in 1996! (Price sticker was dated.) Here is my challenges page; http://carolinebookbinder.blogspot.com/p/reading-challenges.html
ReplyDeleteI'm adding myself with trepidation. I told myself don't enter too many challenges this year but I see this one as a chance to clear the shelf. I especially like the part about "give the book away" when you are done with it. Here goes. I'll aim for the minimum-12.

I am glad to have found this challenge again. I am in.

I'm in as well, I have a really hard time parting with books, but I must. I figure I can afford one a month.
ReplyDeleteI'm so in...my shelves are buckling and overflowing!

I was just thinking that I needed to do this, but I hadn't decided to do it formally until I saw this post. :) I'm in!
