Sunday Blatherings and New Books

Can you believe it snowed here for a good 6 hours yesterday? Not much accumulated because it was mid 30s. but geez could you give us a break please?  The next week means Passover (Friday) and Easter (Sunday) celebrations for many -- we actually celebrate both. I'm especilly looking forward to a small family dinner. It will be fun putting together 3 small Easter baskets for the grandaughters, even though only the oldest will really enjoy it this year.  Do you have any special plans to celebrate?

Last Week's Reading and Reviews
  1. Fetch; Jorey Hurley - 5/5 (library) (March) (pre school)
  2. Findng Spring; Carin Berger 3.5/5 (library) (March) (preschool)
  3. Us, David Nicholls 4/5 (eGalley) (March)
  4. The Invention of Wings; Sue Monk Kidd 4.5/5 (eGalley) (March)
  • Last Night I finally finished A Little Life; Hanya Yanagihara  - I took this 700 page book very very slow.  It's a wonderful, extremely well-written, but heart breaking story.  It will be hard to review without giving spoilers, but I'll try to write one this week. PLEASE - take the time to read this book - it is unlike anything that I have ever read in the past.  I LOVED it so much, I just began the audio version of the author's debut novel, The People in the Trees.

New Books - The last (2) weeks many new books arrived by mail [grin]. So many of these seem like real winners.

Enjoy your week everyone!

  1. Am making a note of the chunkster but when I will find it is another question. Hope the snow clears. Our horrible hot spell broke with rain yesterday though today it's hot again.

  2. Such pretty books! Guess How Much I Love You is one of my son's favorite bedtime books and Spinster has been tempting me. Looks like you got some great reading done this week! Enjoy your new goodies and have a great week!

  3. Thanks Katherine. Love kids books that reinforce our love and build self esteem. Spinster does sound good, I agree. Have a great week.

  4. You're so lucky to have gotten all those books! As usual, all that arrived for me were bills and some catalogues! (But I love looking through catalogues, at least!) Guess How Much I Love You has always been one of my favorites as well!

  5. I had a 10K yesterday and woke up to over 2 inches on the ground!! It was about 14 degrees during the race and my face was frozen by the time I was done!! LOL...but I had a blast! I just put the book you recommended on my Kindle wishlist. My reading has sloooowed way down so if I decide to read this one it just might take me a year! Hope all is well with you and the family!

  6. I've read THE DAUGHTER and liked it. Just so you know. Geez, your winter is never going to end is it? You'd think things would be better by Easter (which is late this year). We finally have some wildflowers blooming, also late. If spring is here, it must surely come to you. Hope your Easter egg hunts go well! :-)

  10. We were whining because it was in the 50s here yesterday. I've got to get to work on Easter basket prep myself.

  12. Have to tell you that Passover is my most DREADED holiday (didn't know you celebrate both)....

Soooo happy we will NOT be "celebrating" it this year, because the part of the family that would come is leaving for a cruise the next day, so no Passover Seder this year! Wooooooooo hoooooooo!!

  14. Love the brightly covered chairs on your header - bring on Spring/Summer! I couldn't take it when I saw flurries here yesterday although we ended up with very little accumulation. I am officially done with winter!

  16. I haven't put much thought into Easter yet, I'm afraid--or I hadn't before this weekend. I got all the required stuff for Mouse's school party which is this week. Now to just concentrate on Easter for us.

I can't believe you are still getting snow. It's kind of like our 100 degree day last week, isn't it? The weather just hasn't been keeping with the seasons.

    Have a great week!
