July Books in Review - August Plans

July was a decent reading month for me. I read (13) books - (2) were non fiction, (2) audios, (2) children's books, (4) eBooks and most surprisingly (7) were library books. Since I stopped working I now hit the library twice a week instead of once every two weeks. While I think the library system we have is excellent, it doesn't help me to read more from my own shelves.

Here's what I read in July, and except for a a couple of the books, most were very very good.
  1. Creatures of A Day and Other Tales of Psychotherapy; Irvin Yalom - 4.5/5 (library) (July)
  2. Find the Good; Heather Lende - 5/5 (publisher) (July)
  3. Hyacinth Girls; Lauren Frankel - 3.5/5 (eGalley/arc) (July)
  4. My Grandmother Asked me to Tell You She's Sorry; Fredrik Backman - 3/5 (eGalley) (July)
  5. Descent; Tim Johnston - 4/5 (eGalley) (July)
  6. Tampa; Alissa Nutting - 4/5 (library) (July)
  7. Best Boy; Eli Gotlieb - 3.5/5 (eGalley) (July)
  8. If You Were a Panda Bear; Florence and Wendell Minor - 4/5 (library) (July)
  9. Daylight Starlight Wildlife; Wendell Minor - 5/5 (library) (July)
  10. Invisible Ellen; Shari Shattuck - 4/5 (sent by pub) )July)
  11. I Was Here Gayle Forman - 2.5/5 (audio) (library) (July)
  12. Finders Keepers; Stephen King - 4.5/5 (print) (library) (July)
  13. A Long Way Home; Louise Penny - 3.5/5 (audio) (library) (July)

  1. I only keep a yearly book list so I'm not sure, but I think July was a kind of slow month for me. I think 13 books is a terrific month!

    1. I think the kids books and audios while walking really helped with the total:)

    1. It was good and really shows fans how much the author has evolved since the 1970s.

  4. I make a list of what I want to read for the month and then never quite read all of them. I'm always finding other books to read instead. I either need to stop making a list or stick to it.

  5. July was my slowest week this year...and maybe in the last couple of years. I read and reviewed TEN books...not too bad, considering I've had house guests all month...LOL.

I have I Was Here, but I see that you didn't enjoy it that much...maybe I'll wait a while on that one.

    Enjoy your new month!

    1. Summers can be busy for sure, but I like to sit on my deck with a cool drink and book --nice and shady most of the day.

  8. So many books! Looks like some good ones in August too. I like the sound of Mislaid, which I've been seeing on other blogs too. Emma

  10. I love your July recap! So many great books.

The library doesn't help with my plan to read from my shelves either. I think if I moved all my books to the library, then there is a better chance I will actually read them lol.

  11. It looks like you had a great July in books, Diane. We visit the library every week just about--but more for my daughter than anyone else in the family. I feel so guilty checking out books when I have so many of my own to read. Have a great August!

  12. I'm glad to see that your retirement allows you the luxury of visiting the library so often. Its one of my favorite places too.
