Hope the first (5) days of 2020 have been kind to my readers out there. I think I'm still recovering from all the holiday excitement. I find that we eat different, move different and fall out of our routines from November through January. I look forward to more normal routines beginning this week. In December we saw a couple of great live performances, celebrated my birthday with children, grandchildren and Santa, and tried a new restaurant and a few old favorites.
This past week we went to see Knives Out (it's rated 8/10 stars). I really liked it a lot but my husband thought it was silly. It is the kind of movie I'll probably only see once, but, it was fun!
I'm savoring my first book of the New Year, American Dirt by just reading 2-4 chapters each day. I'm about 55% into it now. It is really good but, it's also a book that is not a happy story. I finished an audio book by John Grisham : The Guardians (no review yet but 4/5 stars) a very good listen, read by Michael Beck. My current audio book is a lighter story by Nancy Thayer called: Surfside Sisters. It's a good story read by Cassandra Campbell, which is a nice bonus.
How was your week?
This coming week I have a follow-up appointment for a same day hospital procedure I had done the day after Christmas. (Hoping for good news here) My husband also has a few appointments this week and then there will a return to yoga (2 weeks off) which I'm looking forward to.
I agree that we do tend to be out of our normal routines from Thanksgiving through New Year and it's kind of nice and comforting to get back into those routines. I've wanted to see Knives Out but haven't been able to work it into the schedule yet. Good luck with your medical follow-up. I have my own little procedure coming up on Thursday of this week.
ReplyDeleteOh Dorothy, good luck to you Thursday (I'll be thinking of you).
DeleteI'm really looking forward to American Dirt so I'm glad to see you're enjoying it. I hope you get good news at the doctor's office.
ReplyDeleteMy appointment today and test results came back benign - thanks for your concern Kathy!
DeleteIt sounds like you had a nice holiday season, Diane. Good luck with your doctor's visit. Fingers crossed you receive good news!
ReplyDeleteMy husband really wants to see Knives Out, but I imagine he'll have to wait until it's out on a streaming service. I am glad you are enjoying American Dirt. It does sound good.
I hope you have a great week, Diane.
Thanks Wendy - Knives Out was fun but my husband wasn't as thrilled.
DeleteGreat medical report today; thank goodness.
Fingers crossed for good results on the medical front! Waiting is always so difficult. The three books you listed are all so different from one another! I liked Grisham's The Guardians and am hearing a lot of good stuff about American Dirt.
ReplyDeleteHelen, My appointment today and test results came back benign - thanks for your concern!
DeleteHope all goes well with your follow up visit. Happy reading and yoga soon!
ReplyDeleteGood news doctor's visit; thanks Brian.

ReplyDeleteJoAnn - I did get a good report today; so happy!!!
DeleteI love Cassandra Campbell's narration and that sounds perfect to mix in with American Dirt. Knives Out looks great. Hoping for good news at the doctor and have a great week!
ReplyDeleteYes, I needed to find a lighter read to offset the darkness in AMerican Dirt.
DeleteThe pace has not eased as yet!
ReplyDeleteAll your books are new to me and I must look into them a bit closely. Thanks for the update.
I can recommend each one as interesting reads.
DeleteI recently read The Whistler by Grisham, and it was OK, but not one of my favorites. I’ll have to try The Guardians. Not sure about American Dirt. Have to be in the right mood for that. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteThe Whistler was one book that I did not enjoy!
DeleteThanks Vicki - good follow-up visit today!
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize that Knives Out is a comedy. I kept thinking my husband would love a good mystery.
ReplyDeleteSending prayers and good thoughts that your procedure goes well.
We really enjoyed Knives Out too
ReplyDeleteAmerican Dirt sounds good but I'll probably need a happier read after!
ReplyDeleteI want to see Knives Out but I need the right people to see it with me.
ReplyDeleteMy body is back at work and it has forgotten how to sit for long periods of time. I am in agony!
We loved Knives Out! It'd been so long since we had been to the movies so I was happy we ended up choosing one we both really enjoyed. Hope you are having a great start to the year!
ReplyDeleteI want to try out the Knives Out movie. I enjoyed the new Little Women movie. See it if you can.
