The Day of Hurricane Irene

(1) Day after we Purchased this feeder
Obviously, not "squirrel-proof"

  1. Those little birds look a little nervous watching the hurricane clouds.

  2. Whose idea was it to let squirrels on the ark? They are such a nuisance!

  3. I love your bird photos. We have wonderful bird feeders in our backyard... with no bird food. One of our dogs escapes through the rod iron fence so we had to put chicken wire around the bottom to keep her safe. The downside... critters come in but can't get out in time and my dogs kill/eat, throw up 'stuff'. ICK!

    I enjoy squirrels :)

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  4. Yes, those birds look poised for flight. And they seem to be paying attention.

Thanks for sharing both photos. I think squirrels are cute...until they start doing damage!

    Here's MY SATURDAY SNAPSHOT

  5. Those two little birdies are really cute. I'd be a bit concerned, too, watching the clouds come my way.

  6. Yes, those squirrels eat through plastic! Nice photos.

  7. We've yet to find a squirrel proof feeder. I feel bad for all the animals that have to weather those storms outside.

  8. The dark sky looks so much more ominous with the cautious birds in the foreground. Great photo. Here's My Saturday Snapshot

  9. I hope you got through the hurrican in one piece. You'd better squirrel proof that feeder :-)

  10. Nope, definitely not squirrel-proof! I do have to agree with Kaye. Those little fur-buggers are such nuisances!

  11. Poor little birdies! I haven't done birdfeeders before, so I haven't had to deal with squirrels but I've heard they're a pain.

  12. The squirrels are always trying to get at our bird feeders so we use thistle socks, which they can't eat from

    Squirrels are so tricky!!

  16. I think squirrels delight in eating new feeders! Poor little birdies look ready to flee. I was wondering where they went during the hurricane.

I have found one feeder that is sturdy and has survived squirrels. It's the Audubon Going Green Tube Feeder.

I have this feeder and it's my favorite.

  19. Those poor little birds. I am always fascinated by how they survive the wind and the rain.

  20. That is a lovely little pictures of the birds. Amazing to me that animals so small can survive something as big and terrible as a hurricane!

  21. Poor little birds, hope they made out okay in the storm.

  22. Wonder if the birds knew what was coming?

    Lovely photos :)

  23. Love the birds! They do seem to be keeping an eye on things.

    Thanks for stopping by!

  24. You and your birds!! : )

And it is soooo hard to find a squirrel-proof feeder. The key is getting a good baffle to put UNDER the feeder … and not locating near a place where they can jump on top of it.

  25. What a beautiful yard you have!

  26. Those little feathers look a bit ruffled, don't they? Cute pic, though!

    :)

  27. The little birds appeared ruffled as if still suffering from leftover shock. Yikes, squirrels did a number on that feeder. tsk. ☺

  28. Is there such a thing as squirrel proof?

  29. thanks for stopping by

love your birds, I don't do bird feeders so have no advice about the squirrels but I've seen some strange contraptions that they've been able to get passed so I wish you good luck

  30. Squirrels are so ingenious, aren't they. You have to respect their cleverness, even when it is a bit of a pain! Great shots, Diane.

  31. Lovely photos, before and after Irene. Cute little birds.

  32. Hope everyone around there made it through Irene OK, squirrels and birds included. We live in a high-rise and aren't allowed to have bird-feeders on the balconies, but I sometimes leave secret treats!

  33. Oh I love the one with the little birds. So pretty. Great shot.
