First Chapter First Paragraph Tuesday Intros

For today's First Chapter First Paragraph Tuesday Intro, I'm featuring a book I plan to begin in a few days. I've read a few of this author's earlier books and liked them.

Feel free to join in by posting the opening paragraph (sometimes maybe a few ) of a book you decided to read based on the opening paragraph (s). Grab the banner and play along.

"I didn't set out to be an old maid.  When I was in my early twenties there was, according to my mother, "still hope for me."  But when I got into my late twenties the hope all but left Mother's eyes. 'Lord have mercy Ivorie,' she would say. 'What is going to happen to you when your pop and I leave this earth?'  I was, in her opinion, doomed to a bed-of-nails existence without a man."

Would you keep reading or take a pass?

  1. Oh, definitely I'd keep reading....and I'm chuckling here at that kind of thinking. Sounds familiar....I can hear my grandma saying something like that.

  3. Yes, because her mother's very serious attitude made me laugh. I've read a one or two of this author's books too. She's really a good author. I think one of the books I read for Christmas.

  4. Not sure the first paragraph would convince me, but since I'm familiar with the author's other books, I would keep going. I'll have to keep an eye out for this one at the library.

  5. I'd keep reading. The first paragraph grabbed me and so did the cover. I'm putting it on my library list.

  15. While the opener does sound interesting, I'm not sure this would be a book that I would enjoy overall. But it definitely has a good opener!
