Flight, starring Denzel Washington

Between work, planning for Thanksgiving, and other stuff, I haven't had much time to visit my favorite blogs or post much. I think that just happens this time of year to some of us.  We did manage to make time for a FANTASTIC movie yesterday though. Have you seen it?

Denzel Washington has always been a favorite actor of mine, and after seeing him in Flight, I definitely think his performance was "award worthy".  In a nutshell, Washington, stars as pilot Whip Whitaker who miraculously lands a malfunctioning plane, saving almost everyone on board. He's immediately seen as a hero, that is until his problems with alcohol and drugs soon surface.  He's in denial like many addicts, and his addiction could lead to prison time for him.

Actor, John Goodman plays he whacky drug supplier --some really hilarious scenes there.

Every minute of this movie was a thrill, but the "flight" scene made me grip my husband throughout and I felt thankful I didn't have to get on a plane this morning. There is a lot of nudity, swearing and also drug use which some parents with young children and preteens at the theater obviously had not been aware of, but it is a great movie.  HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

  3. I've been very curious about this movie, and if I can get to it, I will, either in the theatres, or as a rental. I'm glad you liked it. Have you seen Skyfall yet? It is worth seeing too.

  5. Susan is right about Skyfall - it's amazing. But I've heard nothing but good things about Flight. And that your 'award worthy' nod matches exactly the buzz in Hollywood Who doesn't love Denzel?

  7. Normally I'd love a movie like this but I don't think I could handle the flight-in-trouble part of it. Hmm I might wait for it to come out on dvd.

  8. I saw the previews for this one and I've been curious about it. Sounds like it's definitely worth seeing!

I'm with you on being seriously short on time for keeping up with my favorite blogs and my own blog to boot. I thought maybe I'd have time to do some catch-up when I had Thursday and Friday off, but those filled up, too! Makes me wish I got more time off than just the holiday this coming week! Alas, I work in healthcare and have to be happy that they do at least give me the holiday off - LOL!

  12. I heard this was good. I also heard it had one of the scariest plane crash scenes ever.

  13. This sounds like it might be one I'd enjoy, but not anytime in the near future. I have a hard enough time flying without adding to my fear. On second thought, maybe I better skip this one!

  14. This was intrigued me from the first moment I saw a commercial. My husband travels way too often these days for me to really want to see it, but I definitely want to see it someday. I had no idea there was nudity, but when a story revolves around drug use, I guess it shouldn't surprise me at all. Thanks for the warning and the review!

    1. Mari, It would take me a little over an hour to get to New Haven. I'd love to try to meet if it were on a weekend, but could not make it work on a weekday. Maybe some other time.

  24. The trailer for this film looks crazy. I love the visual effects. John Goodman was also good in Argo--which is a great film if you haven't seen it.
