Saturday Snapshot - February 5th

Hosted by Alyce@ At Home With Books

Can you pick the real cat?

Meet Lily - Lily is the cat that I would like to clone. This petite, domestic shorthair is almost (8) years old. She has been the perfect cat in every possible way. She is so mellow, not afraid of strangers, a true lap cat, whose favorite things are electric blankets, warm comforters, and lots of pets. She sleeps nestled near me every night (my husband is jealous).  Every morning when I get ready to leave for work, she sits on the counters and squeaks at me, I know she is saying, PLEASE DON'T GO. But, like the faithful companion that she is, I can count on her to be waiting close by for me when I return.

Our other (3) cats are great too, but each of  them has some minor annoying trait -- not so with Lily. She gets along with all of them - she is truly one of a kind. We got her when she was about 2.5 months old, from the Animal Rescue League -- all of her siblings had already been adopted -- we were meant to be together.

  1. I'm jealous that you have such a perfect kitty! Mine have some annoying traits. One likes to destroy things in the daytime (like the door moldings, etc) the other at night (knocking things off counters).

  2. Alyce....one of our cats, Freckles, is a "talker", and honestly he can be so annoying with his voice, when he wants you to turn on the water faucet or feed him.

Buddy, our all black cat, tries to trip you all the time, and does not like Freckles. He loves me and vies for my lap with Lily.

Libby, is the oldest (14) and the alpha, cat. She hates the boys, but likes Lily, and she constantly bugs my husband to turn on the bathroom tub faucet.

I'm glad ours do not destroy things or knock them off the counters though...LOL

  7. Lily sounds perfect in so many ways--a friend to treasure. My husband and I were blessed with a perfect cat that we acquired just a few months after we were married, and he was with us for 19 years and is still missed.

    Pretty kitty!

  9. I can understand why Lily would be your favorite! You are so lucky to have a cat without any annoying habits! How sweet that she gives you "that look" when you leave the house and then greets you at the door when you return! Thanks for sharing your Lily with us!

  10. Ellie...that is too funny; my husband says our Buddy is cross-eyed because he is always trying to trip up; maybe Boot is too....LOL

Brian, I can tell by your photos, that you are a mighty good-looking ManCat too! LOL

Jane, I'm happy that you were able to have 19 years with your special feline. I can imagine how much she enhanced your lives.

Suko, Bellezza, Sheila and Kathy, Lily and I thank you for the compliments:)

  14. Oh, my goodness, Lily is absolutely adorable. My cat (full given name Puppy the Cat) likes to ensure that he races through the house at 4 am, and likes to attack our couches. But, he's so dang cute that I just can't get mad. He also sleeps with my dog, too. So doggone cute.

  15. It is hard to find a just-perfect cat. Most do have one little annoying habit. Our cat, Pony is a champion barfer. We can't figure out why but it is annoying to pad down to the kitchen and step in cat arp...If you could clone Lily-I take her.

  16. Diane, I had a cat just like this (in temperment, not looks) around 8 years ago. Guess what her name was? Lily! Unfortunately, my husband left to go hunting around 3:00am one morning and Lily was terrible about running outside. By the time I got up later that morning, she was gone. I was a week away from delivering my second son. I searched and searched for her...I even fell when I was outside calling her one time. It was early January and freezing outside. Long story short, she never came back. I still miss her to this day. My lovely Alice is a lot like her in many ways, but she is not the lap cat and snuggly kitty that Lily was. Maybe someday I will be fortunate enough to get one like her again. I hope so!

By the way, your Lily is lovely and I also had a cat years ago that looked like her too. Her name was Sophie. I have had A LOT of cats over the years!

I noticed your comment about having to turn on the faucet for a couple of your cats. Alice is like that. I have to keep one of the bathroom sinks partially filled with water for her. I have to keep the toilet lids closed or she'll drink out of them. And I have to keep her water dish in the kitchen sink. She drinks with her paw...weirdo...and gets water all over the floor if I keep her dish there. Oh, the things we do for our cats...LOL!

  18. Suzanne, I laughed when I read "Pony is our champion barfer"...LOL - We have one too...Freckles, everyday he pukes, not hair balls either, but he does crave plants, toilet paper, and newspaper...LOL

Michelle, Your Lily sounded like a gem as well. I am so sorry she disappeared; your husband must have felt awful. That is funny about drinking with her paws:)

Coffee and Book Chick...I can imagine that cat races at 4am would be a bit annoying. They are strange creatures aren't they?

Teachers Pets, Aths, Dawn, Kim, and Viv, thanks for the sweet comments about our little Lily.

  19. Lily looks just like our last cat, Oreo but that's where the similarity ends. Oreo was very aloof and did not like to be picked up or held. Smartest cat we ever had - would jump up on the deck railing and ring the doorbell when he wanted to come in.

  20. lily is just beautiful! Her face looks like a painting...I love her chubby little cheeks!! Precious!

  21. What a great post. P and M are siblings together since birth and usually always sleeping next to each other. I took care of the neighbors cat last weekend and came home with the scent. It has never been an issue before but this time it set them off. What I forgot to mention in the blog is my vet recommended composure calming treats and to plug in feliway which is a calming scent. All seems well this morning as they did the kitty Olympic sprints together waking us up. They are sitting on the bed with me currently.

thank you for your supportive words.

  22. Lily is such a beautiful cat!

She sounds very like my little Lucy, although she was a ginger tabby.

  23. What a beautiful cat she is! I like all the figurines too.

  24. We have a cat like this named Bill. He is just the sweetest little guy and loves cuddles and hugs. Never gets in trouble like the other two do! I love your little kitty, and think she may have to be Bill's long distance girlfriend!

  25. Every cat that I've ever bonded with has been a real bad a$$. What does that say about me? Not sure.

My last love was so sassy it was comical, but if I were sick or one of the kids were sick, then he'd come down off his high, high perch to take care of us.

    Cats. Gotta love 'em.

  26. Lily is an adorable girl. Isn't it funny how each cat has its own habits and personality. Mazie Grace is our sweet kitty, Maggie May is the boss of the house, and Mollie Ann is our pushy one.

  27. She sounds wonderful! I must admit that I also have a practically perfect cat. Her name is Maddie and if I could clone her, I would.
