First Chapter~First Paragraph (s) ~ Tuesday Intros

Every Tuesday, I'll be posting the opening paragraph (maybe two) of my current read.  This week's book:

The Heart Specialist; Claire Holden Rothman

January 1882, St. Andrews East, Quebec.

" All morning I had been waiting for death, even though when I finally came the change was so incremental I nearly missed it. I had laid the squirrel out on a crate and covered it with a rag to keep it from freezing. Blood no longer flowed from the wound on its head, although it still looked red and angry. A dog or some other animal must have clamped its jaws around the skull, but somehow it had managed to escape, dragging itself through the snow to Grandmother's property, where I had discovered it that morning near the barn door. It had been breathing then, the body still trembling and warm. "

Would you give this book a try, based on the opening paragraph (s)?  I feel like I'm hooked already (after reading just 25 pages).

Want to join in?  Just grab the image, and share the first paragraph (s) of your current book.

  4. Yes, definitely hooked. I love the prose style and want to read on. The cover drew my attention immediately and I would have picked it out in a book shop.

I will join in next Tuesday.

  5. Most likely not. Squirrels are the bane of our existence down here, constantly running across the pool cage and they can rip the screening. I detest the little vermin.

  10. I would definitely add this to my list. The prose is great. Plus, there are so many directions to take the story from here...very intriguing.

  11. I don't particularly like the subject matter of this paragraph, though I know this kind of thing happens frequently, but I like the writing style. The story definitely interests me, too.

I didn't realize you were hosting this meme. I like it & will join in next week!
