December 26 - my laziest day of 2011!

Was anyone else feeling lazy today?  (I didn't even participate in Mailbox Monday this week....sigh..) Heck, I didn't even turn on my computer until now -- you see how lazy I've been. We honestly did nothing but lounge around the house today: watching: Get Shorty (very funny) and Law and Order episodes again and again, took a nap and ate leftovers.

Preparing for Christmas was much easier this year as the few gifts that were purchased were easy, and even the food preparation was simpler, as everyone brought something.  We always manage to have too much food. I mean seriously, can (6) people possible eat: an apple pie (gone-my husband ate almost the whole pie), (4lb) cheesecake (1/2 gone), chocolate cream pie (1/2 left), pistachio cake (1/2 left) -- Fortunately, family enjoys dessert leftover as much as the real food.

The best part about Christmas was being together (all of us) - isn't that the perfect gift?  Hope your holiday was wonderful as well.

I am so excited because I got out of work on December 23rd and we don't go back until January 3rd. It's all paid as well without having to use vacation time). One of the perks of working in an academic environment.  I know the week will fly by, but I do have hopes of finishing: Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, so we can see the movie.. --not loving the book, but it's okay I'm over 1/2 way through.  I also want to read Sense of an Ending; Barnes (Kindle Library Loan).  Other plans include selecting my top 10 list for 2011, catch up on reviews and just doing whatever or nothing I please (as the hub will be working):

Whatever your plans for the week and New Years - ENJOY!

  1. Diane, it sounds like you had a wonderful Christmas and dessert leftovers remind me of our holiday party when everyone brought dessert! I was able to send it all home with others... Thank goodness!

We are also having a lazy day... Watching our second movie today.

    Enjoy your week off!

  3. Togetherness is definitely the best gift. Our holidays are spread out this year, so I really haven't had a lazy day yet...looking forward to that hopefully by the end of the week. Our kids go back to school a few days before we do so it's possible those days will be the laziest...LOVE daytime naps :) It's been raining nonstop here, so that's even better :)

  4. Glad you had a lazy day. I wanted to have one, but then the computer began to die and had to quick get another one to save all my files. You think I'd learn to back up my files on the external hard drive! Will do it now! (so I say).

  5. Sounds a lot like my day; love the lazy days. Three of us did venture out to see Sherlock Holmes but our morning was spent watching two comedies on Comedy Central. Enjoy the rest of your holiday.

  6. Sounds like you had a lovely holiday. I wish I could stop by for some of those dessert leftovers. ;-)

I also wish today had been a lazy day! Sadly, I have to work the rest of the week, so today was full of chores I haven't been keeping up with properly with the Christmas season laying claims on all my time. I did manage to sneak off to the movies to see We Bought a Zoo, though, and it was a very welcome, and enjoyable intermission from my slaving.

Hope you enjoy the rest of your time off! =D

  7. I didn't do any posts on Monday either.

Sounds like you had a good time on Christmas. So did I, we had all our kids and grandkids here and that made the day perfect!

  8. I'm with you, Diane. We had a lazy day yesterday. The kids were all here in the afternoon and we all went out for a casual, late afternoon dinner. Today is the last day for house guests. Our daughter and son-in-law leave this afternoon.
All in all, a relaxed and enjoyable holiday.
My husband and younger daughter saw GWTDT yesterday. They said it was really good and also, disturbing. In the next breath my hubby said he wants to read the series.

  10. Glad you had a wonderful Christmas! I'm feeling lazy, too, but I really want to spend my vacation reading, so hopefully I do more than just stare at the TV and nap. ;) Enjoy your time off from work!

  11. We spent a lot of time at the shops spending Christmas money, but today is going to be a very relaxing day for me, what with reading and perhaps doing a little writing as well. It sounds like you are having a lovely time over there, just sitting around watching T.V. and eating! I might have to follow suit!

  14. My Dec 26th was definitely not lazy. It was Boxing Day here in the UK and I hosted a family meal so I was running around for most of the day!

Dec 27th has been very lazy so far though :)

  17. I think lazy days are the best part of the week between Christmas and New Year's :) I am so lucky to have this week off this year -- it is really my favourite time of the year. Leftovers and time to play with all the new Christmas gifts make it so lazy and fun, in my opinion!

  18. my husband used to teach so he knows about those long breaks! Enjoy yours! You certainly deserve it!

We would have definitely gobbled up those desserts!!!

    Enjoy!!!!!!

  19. Sounds like you had the perfect holiday and lazy day after! Enjoy the time off work and the chance to just relax and do what you want, when you want! Hopefully you will have lots of reading time!

  20. Lazy days are the best! If you keep going with the Dragon Tattoo series, try the audios. They are wonderful. I'm not sure this series would have worked in book form for me.

  21. I have been a busy bee around the house. I tried to relax during my first week off, but the kids were still in school so I played Mom Cab all week long. This week the kids are off with me but basketball practice started and so I am still playing shuttle. The time has flown by... I am cleaning out closets. Not relaxing but I am reading in between all of it!

  22. I wish I was being lazy over the break!! We did take off and enjoy Christmas day though. I love leftovers and there were only 3 of us this year so I cut back on the amount of food. Marc had a friend stay over the past 3 days so they made a huge dent in the ham and desserts!! Hope you enjoy your time off!!

  24. Sounds like a wonderful holiday celebration with your family, Diane, and an absolutely perfect day after Christmas! That's what it's for - being lazy, watching movies with your family, and eating left-overs. We couldn't be totally lazy because we had to pack for a trip.

I had to laugh about the desserts because it was the same at our house! We had 4 desserts for 6 people - pumpkin pie (have to make it; it's tradition), 2 ice cream pies (made by a local dairy and absolutely amazing!), and a chocolate cake (12/25 is my mom's husband's birthday). Yummy!

    Enjoy your week off!

    Sue

  25. Your Monday sounded like my Monday-except I needed to pack to be on a 6 am flight. I bring my dad to the hotel with me so I also had to take him home the night before.

  26. Oh, that lazy day after Christmas is sooo needed, even when the lead up isn't overly stressful. Sounds like you guys have as many desserts at your house as my mom does at hers! I swear that woman makes a separate dessert for each of the 18 people celebrating but is there any other time of year you allow yourself to have so many choices?!
