Week in Review

Outside…

It's a beautiful sunny Sunday with high temps to reach 62 degrees today. I'll take it as we had some snow one day and, several rainy days in store for the coming week. I do look forward to warmer temps eventually.
Reading…
This week I finished reading: 142 Ostriches; April Davilla. A really nice debut novel; hopefully I'll review it this week. I've been listening to, You are Not Alone; Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen (pretty good).

Books Reviewed Last Week…
The Library Book, Girls of Atomic City and Animalkind. I read these 3 NF titles in early March. I especially loved Animalkind.

Watching…

The only thing worth mentioning was the One World Together at Home concert last night. So well done and so very moving. I loved all the music and seeing our lovely former first ladies: Laura Bush and Michelle Obama and their heartfelt messages. SO happy we recorded this as I definitely want to watch it again - the 2 hours flew by.
Exercise and other highlights…
We managed to walk 5 times this week. Our middle granddaughter turned 6 last week and we sent her face time birthday wishes.  Her new bike arrived in time as well so we were happy about that.  Big sister's birthday is this coming week.
In The Kitchen…
Another Instacart, a personal shopper delivery arrived on Tuesday. I was able to get about 40/45 items so that was a win. I did receive milk that was beyond its expiration date - disappointing but, overall just pleased I didn't have to do the shopping. I made some homemade chicken soup and cornbread and a shrimp dish which was rather good. Other than that it was familiar favorites and a bit too much comfort foods. Fortunately we haven't gained any weight as our walking routines have seemed to kept things in balance.
Today’s To Do List…

We will be taking a long walk, perhaps some closet organization, maybe a game, some reading. and dinner preparation.  We are talking about dressing  up nice for dinner and cocktails one night a week instead of living in yoga clothes and sweat pants 7 days a week. I'll let you know if that happens.

Retail Therapy...

a new outfit from J Jill

and a just for fun walking hat ...

Looking forward to…
Doing some of the things that I used to take for granted - having family over for dinner, getting a haircut, lunches out, shopping, Starbucks (without 30 cars ahead of me) and buying hanging flower baskets around Memorial Day. I don't think I'll be rushing to movie theaters when they reopen them, I'll wait till things really seem more under control.
How are all of you doing?

  1. I want to watch One World Together at Home.

Love the idea of eventually getting out for the haircuts, etc., but I will certainly take my time and not feel safe for a long while.

Enjoy your books and your movies, and thanks for visiting my blog.

I am watching a very old movie on Amazon Prime, called The Tenant (1976), with Roman Polanski, Shelley Winters, etc.

  2. It may be a while yet, but right now I wish I could see my daughters and my grandkids in person with hugs. I do wonder how long it will be before I will feel comfortable with what used to be normal.

  3. That's a pretty productive wee, all things considered, Diane.

I'm wondering when I will finally feel comfortable in a sports event crowd again. We have seasons ticket to the NFL Texans and I attend a lot of college baseball games at Texas A&M, but I don't think I'll be doing either again before we have an effective vaccine. I even wonder when I will feel comfortable in a bookstore again, and that's even sadder to me.

  4. I love your positive attitude. You have managed to find the good in being able to celebrate birthdays from afar and having your groceries delivered and ordering new clothes for walking. I admire your positive attitude.

I look forward to doing so many small things that I took for granted, like getting my hair cut and driving into Houston or stopping by a friend's house.

I haven't made any plans for next week. I think it might help if I did that. Right now, all I can think about is getting over my cough.

  5. I missed One World Together at Home... hope I can find it somewhere on line. The same thing is happening to me with outdated dairy products and I've gotten some not-so-great produce and meat about to expire, too. I may take a quick run into the store as soon as they open one morning. Getting out for daily walks is keeping us sane, too. Started Unsheltered by Barbara Kingsolver yesterday and so far that is holding my interest. Stay well!

  6. Love the clothes you're choosing! Thank goodness we're able to get out and walk during this time; it's been a life-saver for me.

  7. We missed One World Together at Home, glad you liked it. Lots of things will be open here next week, hopefully it's not too soon.

  8. I stopped at Starbucks the other day and there were no cars in line so I was through the drive thru in just a few minutes.

I watched some of One World Together at Home but didn't finish it.

I started You Are Not Alone but then started listening to The Lonely Heart Of Maybelle Lane, it's very good. I want to read Animal Kind.

They opened a few beaches in Jacksonville and people are flocking there and not staying 6 ft. from anyone. My favorite beach is about 40 min. from there and anytime I've ever been to it I've only seen a handful of people.

  9. I completely missed the concert last night. By the time I found out about it, it was too late. Glad to hear it was good.

I keep planning projects for the weekends but nothing really pans out. So I'm thinking of doing them throughout the week - maybe I'll be more successful that way.

  10. So many things to look forward to and perhaps we will appreciate them more this time around.

  11. The sun came out this afternoon, which was a nice change. I hope the weather starts warming up. 142 Ostriches does sound good, and I look forward to your review. Happy Birthday to your granddaughters! I hope your middle one had a nice day, despite the circumstances, and the older one has a good one as well. One of Mouse's friends has a birthday coming up and all her friends will be contributing videos to wish her a happy birthday. Her mom will put together a little movie of them all for her.

I hope you have a good week. Stay well and safe.

  12. I love the idea of dressing up for dinner! We've watched a bit more Food Network lately so I've stepped up my kitchen game. Now when I give Gage his plate he rates me on presentation, lol. You're doing a lot of reading, I'm jealous. Instacart has saved us from going out as well, but this week I'll have to make a trip to Whole Foods, my first in a month. Have a great week!

  13. The curfew is being lifted on Wednesday here, for just over twelve hours each day but going out is restricted. Post office is open but everyone is being advised unless totally necessary to cut out anything out of home. It is still very much a stay home idea here. I am surprised at the leniency shown in other countries but I guess each to its own.
    Stay safe.

  14. The temperature is cooling here.. we are midway through fall.
My parents have been having virtual cocktails with different groups of friends via Zoom. Tonight is actually my dad’s birthday so he is having a Zoom ‘open house’ for people to drop by and share a drink.

Wishing you a great reading week and good health

  15. I love your walking hat, Diane! I had so many steps this last week. A record for me. Makes me feel better just to be out in the fresh air. Our temperatures are quite nice for now, but the hot is right around the corner. I'm trying to take advantage of the early mornings and the nice weather when it's not raining (which we've also had). I've been rotating my ball caps, but if I can't get my hair trimmed before long, I may be wearing a ball cap all the time. Ha! Hope your week goes well!

  16. The One World concert was really good ... loved it! That was definitely a bright spot. Wouldn't it be great to get a haircut & color sometime soon? I'm also listening to You Are Not Alone right now .... we'll see ...

  17. I had the Together concert on in the background on Sunday. There were lots of good performances from artists all around the world.
