20 Books of Summer - 2022

Cathy at 746 Books is hosting her 20 Books of Summer Challenge again this year. The challenge runs from June 1 through September 1. There are options to read 10 or 15 books instead of the full 20. And you can swap a book, or change the list half way through if you want.

I'm planning on reading the full (20) since we can swap them out if we decide on some other books instead midstream. Last year I picked (20) books and (5) alternatives and ended up reading (17) in the end.

Here's some of what I have planned for this summer:

  1. The Shell Seekers; Rosamunde Pilcher 4.5/5 stars
  2. The Summer Place; Jennifer Weiner
  3. Tin Camp Road; Ellen Airgood - 2.5/5 stars
  4. Life Ceremony; Sayaka Murata - 3/5 stars
  5. The Club; Ellery Lloyd
  6. The Lobotomist's Wife; Samantha Green Woodruff
  7. Metropolis; B.A. Shapiro - 4.5/5 stars
  8. The Book Woman's Daughter; Kim Richardson - 4/5 stars
  9. Summer Love; Nancy Thayer - 2/5 stars
  10. Vacationland; Meg Mitchell Moore  4.5/5 stars
  11. The Lost Summers of Newport; Beatriz Williams
  12. The Hotel Nantucket; Elin Hilderbrand - 4/5 stars
  13. The House Across the Lake; Riley Sager - 3.5/5 stars
  14. It All Comes Down to This; Therese Anne Fowler - 3/5 stars
  15. Stay Awake; Megan Goldin
  16. A Sister's Story; Donatella DiPetrantonio - 3.5/5 sr=tars
  17.  The Midcoast; Adam White - 4/5 stars
  18. Godspeed; Nickolas Butler - 4.5/5 stars
  19. Summer Guest; Justin Cronin
  20. The It Girl; Ruth Ware
Have you made a list of summer reads; are any of mine on your list as well?

Alternate Summer Reads not on List
  1. Love and Saffron; Kim Fay - 4.5/5
  2. Lucy By the Sea; Elizabeth Strout - 5/5 stars

  1. I love seeing people's list of 20 Books of Summer! I am also planning to read The Shell Seekers this summer. It will be a reread for me, but it has been many years since I last read it. Good luck with the challenge. I look forward to hearing about the books!

    1. I do as well Gretchen; it gives me even more ideas about other books I may want to read.

  2. Your list looks ideal for summer reading. I haven't read a single book on your list, but if the covers are indicative of the book contents, you will be spending your days on beautiful beaches and enjoying some delightful scenery this summer.

I like how we can adjust our list if need be. And for me I usually need to swap out some titles.

    1. I'm shocked with ALL the books that you read that you haven't read a few of my older ones LOL I do like to pick beach themed books in summer as well.

    Happy Memorial Day!

    1. The cover of The Club reminds me somewhat of a book I posted earlier in the week: Privacy. Hope you are having a good Memorial Day Weekend.

  4. Good luck with the challenge. I initially had the logo and list for 10 books but changed it to 20. Most are shorter books but I still may end up regretting that. Good thing Cathy says we can change our goal :)

  5. Ohhh I love summer lists. And yours looks good. I plan on picking my summer list soon. I have read The Midcoast and thought pretty good. (3.8*?) See what you think.

  9. I can never seem to plan my reading more than a month in advance, so this challenge seems too daunting for me. But you've got some great books lined up, including several I'd like to read, too. Hope you enjoy The Shell Seekers as much as I loved my reread a couple of summers ago. I'm hoping to get to Pilcher's Winter Solstice this summer.

    1. Glad you loved Shell Seekers, it seems everyone who has read it has. I loved Winter Solstice, but, I'm a weird who could only read that book in December and Shell Seekers in summer LOL

    1. It is so hard to choose. I am still easily swayed by new releases but, I managed to add a few older titles from my stacks as well.

  11. The Book Woman's Daughter is getting some good press; I enjoyed the first novel and a follow up would be great to read.

  13. I have The Shell Seekers on my list too. Hopefully this year I might actually get to it as I've been putting it on various lists for at least five years. LOL!

  20. Diane, I have so much to say about your list!
I, too, will read Elin Hilderbrand's Hotel Nantucket very soon, but as an audiobook. I will download on June 14 as soon as it's released. The audio productions of her novels are top-notch!
And, oh! The Shell Seekers is so very good. I start to tear up at the memory of how engrossed I was and how deeply it affected me when I read it in early May 2021. Unforgettable.
I was able to get an e-book download of The Club for $5.99 a number of weeks ago, so I have that ready to go, but I think I won't have time this summer. I'm keeping it in hand for when I MUST HAVE A THRILLER or I WILL EXPIRE.
And about Vacationland... That intrigued me, but when I discovered that the author has written lots of previous books, I picked up Meg Mitchell Moore's The Islanders, which is set on Block Island. The plot sounds fascinating. Not one of my 20 Reads, but hope to zoom read it in within the next two months.
Looking forward to hearing about the books you read this summer!

    1. Judith, Yes, Hilderbrand is usually a summer pleaser for me and I have reserved the audio from the library when it releases. The audios are excellent. So may have loved Shell Seekers, I feel like this will be a slow, thoughtful read for me to really appreciate what others have loved about the story....20 years is a long time to have waited to read this one for me. Thank you for mentioning that Meg Mitchell has a book that takes place on Block Island, I have fond memories of the island. Have a good summer.
