R.I.P. VI

I'm Weak - A Favorite Fall Challenge
It's one of my most favorite times of the year, partially because of Carl@ Stainless Steel Droppings -  RIP Challenge! This is the 6th RIP Challenge (my 4th year participating). The challenge runs from September 1- October 31....right up until Halloween.
RIP stands for Readers Imbibing Peril and there are many "perils" (or levels) to choose from. I try to make this one easy on myself since it only lasts (2) months, so I've chosen:

  •  Peril the First: Read four books, any length, that you feel fit (my very broad definitions) of R.I.P. literature. It could be Stephen King or Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Ian Fleming or Edgar Allan Poe…or anyone in between.
  • Possible Choices:
  1. Darkness, My Old Friend; Lisa Unger - 4/5 (audio)
  2. Duma Key; Stephen King - 4/5
  3. Those Across the River; Christopher Buehlman - 4/5
  4. The Night Strangers; Chris Bohjalian 4/5
  5. A Trick of the Light; Louise Penny - 4/5 (audio)
Won't you consider adding a bit of madness into your life this Fall??

  1. The Chris Bohjalian book is a possibility for me too. I am so excited about the RIP challenge--I want to hurry up and finish my current book so I can read something spooky!

  5. I see "Duma Key" again. ☺ The first time I saw the book was last weekend, the 2nd time was a post on somebody's blog (horror I believe)and now here. Sign? This is an intriguing challenge. Don't know if I'll be able to participate. This from a girl who had nightmares for 2 weeks after watching only 15 mins of the 13th Ghosts. Lolz. I'm so hopeless in pure terror genre. Good luck. I don't know the other titles. Will look them up tomorrow as I have to prepare dinner now. ☺

  9. That looks like a good list of books! I have only read one book by Bohjalian and that was a while ago. I hope you enjoy whatever you choose to read.

  10. When I saw the title, I thought it was RIP VI - someone named Vi. :<) Night Strangers is on my list to read. Though I don't usually read scary books, I don't think I can resist this one.

  12. Hi Diane,

It is going to be so difficult for you to leave two of those books sat on the shelves unread, some fantastic choices there!

I love the cover on 'Don't Breathe A Word', those eyes are just so spooky and the expression so scary.

I haven't read any Stephen King for years, I used to be an avid fan. The 'Duma Key' sounds like a good place to reacquaint myself with his writing.

    Have Fun with the challenge.

    Yvonne

  13. I think that I fancy the Paul Theroux as a starter.

  14. I would, if Stephen King didn't spook me so much. But I'm interested in the Theroux mystery.

  16. So looking forward to participating in this with you and the others, Diane! I've been fortunate enough to have been involved in the RIP challenge since it began six years ago, and it's always such a pleasure. Your mention of Bohjalian made me remember I have his novel Skeletons At The Feast which I should look into. The title alone seems a good fit does it not?

  17. You're obviously going for a theme of "terrifying"! Enjoy the season!

  18. I'm not joining the challenge but I have already had about 8 books I want to get into once the weather gets a bit colder, the leaves start changing colors, and the spirits start roaming the land once again.

  19. This meme sounds like a lot of fun. Always enjoy your list of books. I remember enjoying Arthur Conan Doyle when I was young. I ought to pick up one of his books again.

  20. I'm doing this challenge too. I've started with The Lantern but I want something scarier for my second book in October. A Stephen King novel would probably be a good choice. I'll wait and see how you liked Duma Key.

  21. I'm doing this one too! Of course, 'cause I love all things scary. Hence, my new horror blog. LOL!

I loved Duma Key...one of my SK favorites. =O)
