Saturday Snapshot ~ April 30th

Saturday Snapshot is hosted by Alyce of At Home With Books.  If you are interested in participating, just post a photo (new or old), but make sure it's not one that you found online. Add your link to Alyce's Saturday post for all to enjoy.

This was my daughter's 8th birthday. She is the one on the left and my son was 5 at the time.  The girl in the middle was a friend. (Photo was taken at my mom's house)

In case some of you are not familiar with this Cabbage Patch Doll Craze. The dolls (many different ones) each came with names and birth certificates. I stood in lines for hours, and recall even being wait listed for these, and the store would call you when it was your turn.  My daughter collected about (5) of them and even my son had a boy version.

  1. Boy, do those kids ever look happy! I can't help but smile at their ear to ear grins.

  2. Ah, yes, the Cabbage Patch Kids! My daughter had a few of them, too, which we found in the attic when we were moving house four years ago! So much furor over these dolls, but it was fun, wasn't it?

    Great photo!

    Thanks for visiting mine....

  3. I, too, remember the Cabbage Patch dolls. My daughter would have been 1 that year, so she was a little younger, but my husband's aunt gave her one a few years after this. It was a boy doll that she never took to all that much. The aunt bought it because of the name - it was my daughter's name (masculinized) and my husband's name as the middle name. We found it up in the attic a few weeks ago, with a lot of other things. Cute kiddos, Diane!

  4. Oh, how I remember those! We never had any but a friend of mine got several. Your daughter and her friend resembled each other.

  5. My oldest had one too - although she was 3 at the time. I'm not sure if it's still around but I remember how hard they were to get for a while.

  6. I remember those dolls! I thought they were so ugly and every little kid desperately wanted one. People were waiting in long lines and fighting over them. Thanks for the blast from the past.

  8. Yes, I remember that fad...when my daughter was little it was Beanie Babies, Pokemon cards and the famous year that no Tickle Me Elmos were around :)

  11. What a great photo! I loved Cabbage Patch kids! My parents told me they got one of the last ones on the shelf when they bought mine for me (I was about eight then too). I still remember her name, and finally gave her away just a couple of years ago.

  12. I remember this craze. It was almost as intense as those for Beanie Babies a few years later. Whatever happens to those 'dolls' now? Does anyone care? You were a good mother to stand in line for hours, though. ;)

  14. What an adorable picture! I've never heard of the Cabbage Patch Dolls - maybe because I am in a different country. When I was a kid, Barbie dolls were the craze.

  27. I remeber Cabbage Patch Dolls! Love this picture, everyone looks so happy!

At the height of the Cabbage Patch Dolls craze, my grandmother was determined to get one for me because I had to have major surgery and she wanted to surprise me when I woke up. She was relentless & had store clerks calling her from all over Long Island to report when a shipment came in! It worked, she got me one of the baldies!

It's amazing the items that become best sellers!

  33. Ah yes, the cabbage patch dolls! I never understood the appeal, but just had to have one since all of my friends did. And then it just sat in my room neglected. Is this what's in store for me as Gage gets older?
