First Chapter First Paragraph Tuesday Intros - Morningside Heights; Joshua Henkin

Welcome to First Chapter/Intros, hosted by Yvonne @ Socrates Book Reviews
Each week readers post the first paragraph (or 2) of a book we are reading or plan to read.

Morningside Heights; Joshua Henkin
Random House Audio - 2021

"Growing up in Bexley, in the suburbs of Columbus, Pru had been drawn to older boys, thinking they could take her far away from home. Her father was from Brooklyn, her mother from Manhattan's Upper East Side, but they met in the middle of the country, in Ann Arbor, at a freshman mixer in 1944. Pru's father was studying engineering, and when he graduated he went to work for GM. But he wasn't cut out for the auto industry, for its assembly lines and economies of scale, and Pru's mother did not like Detroit and its suburbs -- Ten Mile Road, Eleven Mile Road, Twelve Mile Road --everything measured in a car. But Pru's father was happy in the Midwest, and when an opportunity arose in Columbus, he settled on it.  And on Torah Academy, where Pru, as a kindergartener, was dropped off every morning at eight o'clock."

What do you think read more or pass?  I downloaded the audio version from the library yesterday and I am really enjoying this one (already at 50% point). The story and narration, Kathe Mazur and Shane Baker is pitch perfect.

  1. Combined with the cover, I would certainly keep reading. Nice to to know that there are two narrators and that you are pleased with the narration. That helps, too.

    1. Dorothy, the story is one I'm really enjoying. It feels realistic when is important to me when I read a story about a marriage or relationships.

    1. It's interesting I was unfamiliar with this author yet when I checked other books he has written the titles seemed familiar but I don't see that I've read them. I'm almost done, this one was quite addictive on audio.

  7. I was sold at "Growing up in Bexley, in the suburbs of Columbus". I grew up 7 miles from Bexley. I know it well. Still have a lot of family in the area.

    1. Isn't it funny how we are sometimes drawn to a book when there is a common link (Bexley) for you. Setting has often played a part for me when choosing a book. This is a good one Vicki - excellent audio.
