83 - Water, Stone, Heart; Will North

Water, Stone, Heart: A Novel; Will North

Following a painful divorce when his wife leaves him for another man, Andrew Stratton a middle-aged professor of architectural theory, decides he needs a change of pace from academic life in Philadelphia. He decides to go to Boscastle, England, to take a course in hedge and stone wall building. While in Boscastle, Andrew finds he loves the quaint countryside, sharp Cornish coastline friendly pubs, and people he meets along the way.
Several quirky characters, an impending disaster, based on actual Boscastle events in 2004, and the introduction of another wounded soul also transplanted there from the US, and soon loves begins to bloom in the most unexpected way.
I was attracted to this book by the beautiful cover art, and did not realize initially that the book had a romantic twist. The story was a bit sappy for my tastes and as a result seemed to drag a bit in parts. I did adore the way the author’s writing style was able to transported me to this beautiful Cornish village.

RATING - 4/5 - COMPLETED - 6/5/09

  1. Oh, this book sounds great! I love to read about professors whether of Architecture, Art, English or History. I also like books which take place in England. I like the title of this book.

  3. I'm not much for sappy romances either but being transported to a Cornish village would be wonderful. I fell in love with this cover when I first saw it too. It's just beautiful.

  6. Sorry this one didn't live up to your expectations. I have had that happen a lot recently. Hopefully your next read will be much better, and I have to say, I am not a huge fan of romance either.
