Booking Through Thursday - Books That Stick

Today’s question is from Shelley:
“This can be a quick one. Don’t take too long to think about it. Fifteen books you’ve read that will always stick with you. First fifteen you can recall in no more than 15 minutes.”
  1. Silas Marner (Signet Classics); George Elliot
  2. Death Be Not Proud (P.S.); John Gunther
  3. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (P.S.); Betty Smith
  4. Rebecca; Daphne Du Maurier
  5. Misery; Stephen King
  6. Middlesex: A Novel (Oprah's Book Club): Jeffrey Eugenides
  7. The Book of Eve; Constance Howe
  8. The Crimson Petal and the White; Michael Faber
  9. Between Two Rivers: A Novel (P.S.); Nicholas Rinaldi
  10. The Inn at Lake Devine; Elinor Lipman
  11. The Kite Runner Illustrated Edition; Kahaled Hosseini
  12. Water for Elephants: A Novel; Sara Gruen
  13. Snow Flower and the Secret Fan: A Novel; Lisa See
  14. The Art of Racing in the Rain: A Novel; Garth Stein
  15. Moloka'i; Richard Brennert
What a flood gate of memories this exercise has brought on. Honestly, I could have named so many more great books that have stuck with me over the years, but these were the first (15) that came to mind. ( I actually could have listed a few Stephen King titles, even though I have not read his books in years----they certainly left an impression).

I can't wait to see everyone's list!!!

  8. I forgot about Death Be Not Proud. Read it in 7th grade and it took me weeks to pick up another book. It was soooooo good and I can still see the book cover and certain passages in my head. I might have to just read this one again as an adult. thanks for reminding me.

  13. That's a nice list. I have "The Inn at Lake Devine" on my TBR list for this year - I really loved Lipman's "Ladies' Man." Don't know about "Silas Marner" - I guess that one will stick with me, too, but not in a good way!

  14. I've been wanting to read Moloka'i for ages now, but my library doesn't have it. And I haven't been able to bring myself to buy it... maybe I will now, if it's really that good.

  21. Great list! I'm a bit ashamed to say that I've only read one of them, The Kite Runner, but I have several of them on my wish list(just have to make my TBR pile a bit smaller first).

  25. I am so mad at myself for leaving off Rebecca! I also really liked A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. Silas Marner I read in high school and has left me with not so fond memories. Maybe my perspective has changed?

  26. You've got a few books on there that would probably make my list. I'm having such fun reading everyone's lists. Maybe I should make my own. :-)
