Musing Mondays - Time Enough Time to Read

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about reading time…

Do you have a set reading time (before bed, perhaps)? Do you read more at night or during the day? Is there a day of the week, perhaps, that you set aside to catch up on reading?

I feel really lucky in that I get to read just about whenever I want. I'm not working right now and have lots of free time to read. My favorite places to read are my loft which has a huge bookcase, comfy chair and great light and quiet. I tend to only read there in the evenings for some reason.

During the day in warmer weather while I am gardening, going for walks, cleaning or just relaxing on the deck (in summer) I like to listen to audio books a lot on my IPOD. My DIL had me figured out yesterday while watching my son pitch at his ball game. She saw the ear buds and said, "Is that an audio book"? I just smiled, guess everyone in the family knows me too well. I also love to listen to audio books on the IPOD in bed before falling asleep. It doesn't keep my husband awake and it has a sleep timer as well (works out perfectly). I borrow a lot of audio books from the library and copy on to the IPOD for free.

In winter, I enjoy sitting by a sunny window by day while reading, always wrapped in a cozy comforter or sitting by the gas fireplace whenever possible.

I usually have (3) books going at one time, an audio book in the car, a different audio book on the IPOD, and a print book as well. I also have spare books in my trunk, so I never an without a book when I have to wait in the car etc.

What say you about your reading preferences?

  1. I have a hard time with the audio books. Mostly because I space out into the book and not pay attention to whatever I'd doing - driving - so I usually only listen to one if I'm travel a great distance on the expressway.

  2. I love the sound of your loft. I want a loft like that! I still have not tried audio books. My library is pretty sparse on good audio books. I didn't check out the waiting list, though, so maybe I can check that out. Maybe all the good ones have been checked out!

  3. I get most of my reading done at lunch, as the house is quiet. I also walk to work in the summer so that gets me some audiobook time. I love to lay in my hammock in the evenings, if it's warm, to read too.

Thanks for the offer of The Chosen One. It's on my WL whenever you get done with it. :)

  4. I'm so jealous of you having so much reading time!! I said to my partner just last night that I might have to quit work so that I can read all of the books I need/want to read!

  5. I am very envious of your loft. It sounds like the perfect place to relax and read.

I always have a book at hand so I read whenever I can. I work part time from home so that makes it easier. Mostly though I read at night when I can relax and the dog settles down and falls asleep by my leg instead of bugging me. lol.

  6. Most of my reading time comes on the weekends. During the week, I am lucky if I can read during my half hour lunch break. And I do try and read before bed each night, but that doesn't always work out. It depends on how tired I am.

  7. Funny enough I haven't been working for a while but my reading doesn't seem to have picked up. How weird is that?

But we are alike - gotta have several books going on at once :)

  8. I usually read for two hours over coffee in the morning, but can read whenever I'm free. I cannot read before bedtime, at least not in bed because I cannot get focused.
