Saturday Snapshot

Saturday Snapshot

Photos can be old or new, and be of any subject as long as they are clean and appropriate for all eyes to see. How much detail you give in the caption is entirely up to you. Please don't post random photos that you find online.

An unplanned trip to the Berkshires in Massachusetts gave me the opportunity to tour the Edith Wharton's estate located in Lenox, MA.  Admission to the house and the garden were separate and we really only had enough time for one tour so it was the gardens we chose for this trip.  Unfortunately many of the plantings were either just out of bloom or about to bloom in a week or so, but it was still very fun.

I do want to plan another visit to tour the inside of the home, perhaps in the fall when the foliage will be beautiful en route. As JoAnn, Lakeside Musing suggested, maybe a place where East Coast bloggers could meet up?

only had my iPhone for photos unfortunately

forgot what this was called - anyone know?

wouldn't this be a cool spot to read?

perhaps a great place to do some writing as well

Plenty of events are always going on here.

  1. How beautiful is all that!? I had no idea she had an estate that was open to the public. I especially love those stone arches covered in vines . . .

  7. Yes, these are alliums... and your photos are just marvellous. This garden is beautiful... the inside would be lovely too I'm sure. I took my Sat. Snapshots with an iPhone too this time. I was told it has even higher resolutions than my pocket digital camera.

I agree with the flower ID, they are allium. And your iPhone takes great pictures btw.

  14. What do you think they'd do if a bunch of bloggers just showed up with lawn chairs and plopped themselves down in the garden and started reading?

  29. Wow, Diane, what a gorgeous estate. I had no idea Edith Wharton lived in a place like this. I adore her books but don't know that much about the author's life.

I'm definitely going to visit there the next time I get up to MA. And I think the idea for an East Coast blogger's get-together is awesome!

  33. What a gorgeous house and gardens! Would be hard to choose which one to tour. If I ever get to that end of the country, I'll be sure and have this on my list of places to visit.

And I don't know what the purple flowers are - but I want them in my yard!

  34. Beautiful! I visited the home and gardens a couple of years ago and simply loved it, which reminds me: I still haven't read Wharton as I promised myself when I was there!
