Every Tuesday I host First Chapter First Paragraph Tuesday Intros,
where I share the first paragraph or (a few) of a book I am reading or
thinking about reading soon. Care to join us?
This week I'm featuring an intro from a book that I've been meaning to read all summer. I hope to start it later this week.

1.
Route 5, Ten Miles South of Hanover, New Hampshire
October 1931
"One hundred and twelve miles of curving pavement lie between the entrance gates of Smith College and the Dartmouth football stadium, and Budgie drives them as she does everything else, hell-for-leather.
The leaves shimmer orange and gold and crimson against a brilliant blue sky, and the sun burns unobstructed overhead, teasing us with a false sense of warmth. Budgie has decreed we drive with the top down, though I am shivering in the draft, huddled inside my wool cardigan, clutching my hat."

Have you read this one? What do you think? Would you keep reading? (I have to admit I was hooked when I read Smith College and Dartmouth in the very first paragraph....a personal affection to both institutions).
Feel free to join us by linking your First Chapter post below.
Good choice, Diane. I like the intro and would keep reading.
ReplyDeleteI like the opening, too, and would continue to read.
ReplyDeletego for it!
ReplyDeleteThis is on my never-ending list. I'd keep reading.
ReplyDeleteI'd keep reading!
ReplyDeleteI would definitely keep reading. The cover alone would have had my attention.
ReplyDeleteYes, definitely! Love the setting and the characters sound intriguing. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteJoining the meme for the first time. I'd really want to know more of this book.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good book to me!
ReplyDeleteI want to read this one!
ReplyDeleteI too am attracted by the setting but would want to know if it's heading into a romance novel, in which case I wouldn't be interested.
ReplyDeleteWe it does sound pretty interesting!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've read thiis before but for some reason it sounds familar. I like the phrase " hell-for-feathers."
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like one of those fun college, 1950s novels. I'd keep reading. Here's Mine
ReplyDeleteThis book is on my wish list! Look forward to your thoughts.
ReplyDeleteI read this one last month. It was a little too soap opera-ish and not as much historical fiction as I would have liked but was ok for a light read.
ReplyDeleteI'd need a little more before deciding. I hope you enjoy your book. kelley—the road goes ever ever on
ReplyDeleteI probably would if of no other reason than its set here in New England.
ReplyDeleteThe cover screams "summer" but it sounds like this one isn't just a piece of summer fluff.
ReplyDeleteBudgie sounds like a real "wild child" and I'm sure I would like to find out more about her. I'd have to hide the cover of the book if I was reading it in public though, as it seems to look like one of those books that only women are supposed to be reading.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Which has never stopped me!
ReplyDeleteYes! I love this one for the cover alone :-)
ReplyDeletesounds exciting. I've been so swamped this summer that I've had a hard time participating. Thanks so much for stopping by and keeping in touch.
ReplyDeleteI would keep reading!
ReplyDeleteI am sorry I missed this week, Diane. The flu hit our house pretty hard and this week it was my turn to be taken down by it. I'm still not seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, but it better come soon. Ugh.
