I went challenge-free in 2013, except now I cave.
I can never resist Carl’s annual RIP Challenge (Readers Imbibing Peril) -- This is my 6th time participating. The college student's are arriving on campus, we've had a few fall-like days, and this is the time of year I crave, Gothic, thrillers, psychological suspense and maybe even a horror or mystery.
There are different levels of participation, but for me I'm taking the easy route --- Peril the First, which means reading four books that fit the categories between now and October 31st.
Here are some of the types of books that qualify for this challenge: Mystery, Suspense, Thrillers. Dark Fantasy, Gothic, Horror and Supernatural.
How about joining us? Be sure to link back to Carl's original post.
Here are the ones I'm considering for this challenge (I plan to read 4/6):
Have fun!
ReplyDeleteFall-like weather? Really?!?! Do you have a guest room? ;)
ReplyDeleteYou have a super list there, Diane. I just added two books, one which I want to get asap - Poppet, which looks so creepy, and the Connolly book. I am happy to say I have Dr Sleep already on my list to buy as soon as it's out! I just posted about it, I am so excited it's coming out :-) That Bellman and Black looks interesting too.....I love this challenge! Have fun reading your books, I look forward to your reviews :-) I love this time of year, and this challenge adds to it so much, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteUggh Diane! Now I am going to join this challenge because how can I pass it up! What am I complaining for...I love this season!
ReplyDeletewow I am glad to see so many people going to read Bellman and Black! I loved The 13th Tale..hope this is good also! Enjoy your "creepy reads!"
ReplyDeleteI had no idea there was a third Samuel Johnson book! Troubled Daughters looks like fun. I think you are brave to read Doctor Sleep. I've never been able to bring myself to read The Shining after having seen the movie!
ReplyDeleteI am glad you are not skipping it! It is definitely my favourite!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great list!
ReplyDeleteYou've got a brilliant list there. Hope you enjoy RIP!
ReplyDeleteHmmm, maybe I should join this challenge as I just started Bellman and Black. Night Film is on my radar as well.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you have lots of good reading ahead of you! I adored The Thirteenth Tale so I can't wait to get my hands on Bellman and Black. And I loved the one book that I read by Mo Hayder so I'm agree to read more in that series. I hope you enjoy all of these. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteAnd resist you shouldn't! :) Ha, so glad you are joining in again. Great set of books you've lined out as potential reads. Night Film in particular sounds thrilling and I'm enjoying Bellman and Black thus far.
ReplyDeleteI haven't come across any of the books on your list - so I have some exploring to do! I'm really looking forward to this challenge, and I'm expecting it will add some books to my reading lists.
ReplyDeleteThat might be some of the best RIP reading I've come across so far. I want to read Night Film so badly that I can hardly stand it. Love the RIP event. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI can't resist this challenge either! Bellman and Black is one of my picks too. I forgot about Doctor Sleep, that's also a must read. I knew there would be more RIP books fighting for my attention.
ReplyDeleteI love this challenge I find myself aving books for it throughout the year

ReplyDeleteI keep hearing about Night Film. Can't wait for your review!
ReplyDeleteYou have some great choices on there! I think I'm going to buy the John Connolly book the day it comes out just to squeeze it in for this year's challenge. :) Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteAll of your selections look wickedly good :)
ReplyDeleteWhile I am not sure that I will formally participate in the RIP challenge this year, I do have great plans to finally read the entire Harry Potter series ... and I am more than excited to get started!
Too scary for me...
