Every Tuesday I host First Chapter First Paragraph Tuesday Intros where I share the first paragraph sometimes two, of a book that I'm reading or plan to read soon.
End of Watch; Stephen King
(Book 3 of the Mr. Mercedes Trilogy)
(Scribner - 2016)
April 10, 2009
Martine Stover
"It's always darkest before the dawn.
This elderly chestnut occurred to Rob Martin as the ambulance he drove rolled slowly along Upper Marlborough Street toward home base, which was Firehouse 3. It seemed to him that whoever thought that one up really got hold of something, because it was darker than a woodchuck's asshole this morning, and dawn wasn't far away."
What do you think -- keep reading or pass?
(Feel free to join in this week by posting your intro below?
I would love to keep reading...this series (trilogy?) sounds tempting.
ReplyDeleteLaurel, I really enjoyed this first 2 books so I have high hopes for #3.
DeleteI might have chuckled a bit reading your opening. I haven't heard much about King's latest, although I have seen it around. I hope you enjoy it, Diane!
ReplyDeleteWendy, I haven't actually started it it but,, downloaded the library eBook - better get to it
DeleteStephen King really does know how to grab your attention doesn't he? Great opener as I want to know who is in that ambulance!
ReplyDeleteMe too Cleo, haven't started it yet though.
DeleteI'd read it because its a King! but the opener does not grab me.
ReplyDeleteI agree, it's not a great opener but, I know that will change.
DeleteI am too squeamish to read Stephen King, but I know he is an excellent writer!
ReplyDeleteThis series is not like the horror of his earlier books. This is a gentler King.
DeleteI like the opening and would like to keep going. But, unfortunately, I saw the author's name and can't do it. His books scare me.
ReplyDeleteThis series is not scary Margot - really.
DeleteI stopped reading Stephen King years ago because he got too creepy for me.
ReplyDeleteYes I can understand why some have stopped reading King but, this series just isn't scary.
DeleteI don't read Stephen King either. Well, I did watch The Green Mile as a movie and thought it was good, and I did read 11-22-63. That one was interesting to me and not too scary. But I will pass on this one. Hope you like it though.
ReplyDeleteI loved 11-22-63. This series is more like that - no horror.
DeleteThat was pretty darn good, but his stuff usually is creepy cool!
ReplyDeleteGlad you like Uncle Stevie.
DeleteI would keep reading for sure--which reminds me, I really want to read more Stephen King! I'm a wimp but he is a good writer.
ReplyDeleteJane, this is a good series; no scary like his earlier books.
DeleteNo one like Stephen King! Must read that trilogy one of these days.
ReplyDeleteHope you try this series Judy.
DeleteI'm not a Stephen King reader, so I'd pass. The intro isn't as gripping as I would expect.
ReplyDeleteI agree it is not a great intro LOL
DeleteI've just read my first Stpehen King book recently and enjoyed it so yes, I would carry on reading.
ReplyDeleteWOW, surprising Emma. He has so many books out now.
DeleteI would keep reading for the fact that it's Stephen King. I didn't read Mr. Mercedes and have heard that it isn't his best, but even his worst is still great to me.
ReplyDeleteOh I liked Mr. Mercedes Kathy.
DeleteI used to read King back in the earlier days, but pretty spotty in recent years. I haven't read any of this series but hear good things about it, so I hope that you find it's a good one!
ReplyDeleteThanks Rita, it is a good series.
DeleteI'd read more! I saw this at the store today and was tempted to pick up a copy!
