Yesterday was a long tiring day as we headed to New York City for Father's Day (just for the day). My husband's sons live in Manhattan and Philadelphia so they invited us to the city for brunch. It was a fun day with perfect weather but, it made for a very long 12 hour day. I hope you all had a nice weekend as well.
The publishers were very generous last week, several new books arrived in my mailbox. They all look really good but, I am especially looking forward to the new Allen Esken's book, The Heavens May Fall. (I've read his first two books, The Life We Bury and The Guise of Another. I enjoyed them both.
- The Couple Next Door; Shari Lapena (Pamela Dorman Books)
- In the Darkroom; Susan Faludi (Metropolitan Books)
- The Heavens May Fall; Allen Eskens (Seventh Street Books)
- Jonathan Unleashed; Meg Rosoff (Viking)
- Return; Aaron Becker (Candlewick)
- Tuesday Nights in 1980; Molly Prentiss (Gallery/Scout Press)
- An Abbreviated Life: A Memoir; Ariel Leve (Harper)
Hope you had a fun day in NYC! I'm planning to try Tuesday Nights before this year is out - I've heard good things!
ReplyDeleteWe are not fans of the big city; too congested for us but, we do it once a year to see family.
DeleteSounds like you had a good Father's Day! Your mailbox was certainly full this week. So many great books!
ReplyDeleteIt was nice - thanks Katherine.
DeleteThose books all look great!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to them.
DeleteI hope you and your husband enjoyed the day with the sons! What a haul!
ReplyDeleteThe visit was nice Charlie but, it was nice to come home.
DeleteThat was quite a trip! Cool books too!
ReplyDeleteThanks Brian - good to be home.
DeleteSounds like a fun weekend.
ReplyDeleteIt is currently 114 here in So California and everything is so dry. Fires are breaking out which makes me nervous as heck. We have a couple more days of this. It's not normally this hot here.
I feel bad for you out in So CA. I thought 86 and humid was hot, but today was a breezy 79 - perfect.
DeleteGood looking books. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kailana.
DeleteThose ARE some fabulous books!! Your weekend sounds fun as well!
ReplyDeleteAnxious to try these books. The weekend was nice but, tiring.
DeleteI see several very tempting books. I am curious about The Couple Next Door. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThe Couple Next Door does sound good.
DeleteSounds like a fun day but it would've worn me out as well. Enjoy your new books!
ReplyDeleteLOL - The city is for the younger crowd IMO:)
DeleteLike another commenter here, I spent the weekend plus Monday, watering my yard early in the morning and huddled in the air-conditioned house. 110 degrees in my yard yesterday and smoke from wild fires. The newish books I plan to get to this week are Vinegar Girl by Anne Tyler and Arcadia by Iain Pears. It is only 93 today!
ReplyDeleteJudy, I wouldn't want that kind of heat either.
DeleteI am glad you had a nice visit with your husband's sons. That is a long drive! We ended up going out of town Saturday for the day, driving down to San Diego. Kind of an early Father's Day celebration. Look at all those great books! I hope you enjoy them. Have a great week, Diane!
ReplyDeleteOH NO, it was a 3 hour ride each way but a 12 hour long day :)
DeleteNot us Vicki, we are not fans of the big city - dirty and congested.
ReplyDeleteA twelve hour day is a long day - glad it was a good day!
