Library Loot - 1-14-2010

I've been hoping to read more of my own books this year so am toning down my library requests.  This week I got (2) audio books (to copy to my IPOD), Waiting for Columbus, Thomas Trofimuk and House of Reckoning, John Saul.  I also got (2) other books: The Children's Book; Byatt and The End of the Road; Sue Henry.  This balance should work better, I hope than returning lots of books unread.

Do you use the library a lot? Did you get anything good this week?

  2. I just got "In the Sanctuary of Outcasts: A Memoir" from the library. Really looking forward to reading it.

I also got "Oxygen: A Novel" - cannot remember where I heard of it, but it is a medical novel.

Then I picked up two trashy audiobooks. When I am driving, I am very indiscriminate.

I just got a notice that "Rainwater" is waiting for me.....I am not sure I have ever read a Sandra Brown book but all the reviews said it was a real departure from her usual romantic/suspense novels. It is very small in dimension so the 256 pages will read quickly.

  6. I've also got the children's book on my TBR list. I'll be interested to see your review if you read it before me.

No library, but I've resisted the 15% sale at Audible, so I was good there! I need to get both my real TBR and virtual TBR piles down before I buy new ones.

  7. I'm a frequent library user. Tonight I returned two books and didn't have any holds to pick up. There's a free book shelf outside my library, however, and I found The Professor and The Madman: A tale of murder, insanity and the making of the Oxford English Dictionary by Simon Winchester. How could I refuse?

  12. I'm curious to know how you find Columbine. I've heard a lot of mixed reviews of that book.

  13. Oxygen is fantastic. I loved that book.

*Sigh* I go to the library too much and check out way too many books. A lot of them go back unread, so I know just what you mean. I am a library addict. I'm going to school to be a librarian though, not sure if that will be a good or a bad thing for my addiction lol.

    Enjoy your new library loot!

  14. I loved, loved, loved The Children's Book! :)

I always get audiobooks from my library (I can't imagine how I'd afford them otherwise!), but I haven't heard of the two that you picked up.

  18. You are so lucky your library has The Children's Book! Ours has it, but it's followed by a wait list of 9,000 people. Approximately. I gave the hardback copy away to a friend who's having surgery, so I guess I'll be waiting awhile for it. Or, I'll move to New England. ;)

  20. I use the library a lot but not in the traditional sense. Our library allows you to check out books for e-book readers and audio books. I don't even have to go into the actual library I just check them out online. Very convenient for me.

P.S. Diane... I posted your giveaway!

  21. Sadly I don't get to use the library at all. Seems there aren't any good ones here. Or if there are, I don't know about them yet :(

But I hope you enjoy your new stash! And as for audio readings, I love listening to the New Yorker Fiction Podcast :)
