Welcome to First Chapter/Intros, hosted by Yvonne @ Socrates Book Reviews. Each week readers post the first paragraph (or 2) of a book we are reading or plan to read soon. I started this book and it's quite addictive. It's Book #2 of the Frankie Elkin series which began last year with: Before She Disappeared (loved that one.)
THE FIRST THREE MEN CAME stumbling into town shortly after ten A.M., babbling of dark shapes and eerie screams and their missing buddy Scott and their other buddy Tim, who set out from their campsite before dawn to get help.
"Bear, bear, bear," the first guy moaned.
"Mountain lion!" the second guy insisted.
Third guy vomited.
What do you think - read more or pass? (Lots of details about hiking, camping and rescue and recovery.)
I've always liked Lisa Dutton's thrillers. Enjoy! I'd read on.
ReplyDeleteIt's Lisa Gardner - Dutton Publishing.
DeleteOops!
DeleteI love this author and I have been eyeing this one. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI hope you read it and enjoy it; Frankie Elkin is a great character.
DeleteThis author is a great storyteller. Sounds like another good one.
ReplyDeleteIt is good so far!
DeleteThat is an intriguing beginning. I don't think I've ever read Lisa Dutton but I should check her out.
ReplyDeleteIt's Lisa Gardner - Dutton Publishing. She's excellent and Frankie Elkin is a great character as well.
DeleteOh, I really liked it! I wasn't sure about the new series featuring Frankie Elkins, but this one kept me engrossed throughout. The characters and the suspense kept totally enrapt, and I'm now eager for the next Frankie Elkins--but I still want more D.D. Warren!
ReplyDeleteDD Warren was a great series as well. Lisa G is an excellent writer IMO.
DeleteThe opening immediately has me wondering what happened to them. I would keep reading to find out.
ReplyDeleteI loved the opening as well....Male pre-wedding bonding in the woods gone bad.
DeleteI haven't read a Lisa Gardner book in a long time. This looks like a great one and I'd keep reading.
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked the intro Yvonne.
DeleteIt's been a while since I read a book by Lisa Gardner as well. This one does sound good, but I'd probably like to read the previous book first. Putting them on my list....that endless list...lol!
ReplyDeleteThe previous book is excellent as well Kay - I know what you mean about the endless list!
DeleteI'd totally keep reading! What a great beginning. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, that intro pulls no punches :)
DeleteOh wow- that beginning is not messing around!
ReplyDeleteI know, talk about getting off to rock rolling start.
DeleteNot sure if you read Book 1, Before She Disappeared (it's very good) but, it isn't necessary to read that on first.
ReplyDeleteI see that you liked the first one in this series, Before She Disappeared. I read and loved that one. Of course I look forward to getting my hands on One Step Too Far. It's quite different than her other series but enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteOooh, that sounds like such an intense introduction! I'd definitely keep reading. I'm not sure if I've ever read anything by Lisa Gardner. If I have, it was pre-blogging days.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to remember if I've read Lisa Gardner. If I haven't I've been wanting to for ages and I love the sound of this beginning!
ReplyDeletePS - I saw your comment about Hideaway by Nora Roberts. While a lot of her books are series this one is actually a standalone romantic suspense so you're good if you want to give it a try.
