Happy Father's Day to all the dads today.
Healthy Living ~ I had a successful (week 1) of my healthy eating/exercise mission. I lost 4.5 lbs this week, and managed to walk (4) out of (7) days for about (35) minutes each day. I know this probably sounds weird, but I feel better already having eliminated most refined sugars. I also had more energy this week, so I feel more motivated to continue.
Audio Books ~ I heard June was audio book month, but I've always enjoyed them and usually listen to about 3-4 month. I am really hooked on audio books lately, as I can occasionally listen at work as well. I have been listening to some awesome ones: Venetia Kelly's Traveling Show; Frank Delaney, and The Murderer's Daughters; Randy Susan Meyers; both are excellent. I just picked up The Passage; Cronin (audio version is 25 discs), but know I will not finish this in (3) weeks since my commute is short, so I'll probably supplement it with the print version; I'm anxious to see what the hype is all about.
My June reading is not going as anticipated, (I've only read 6 books so far) but I'm okay with that. This week I didn't finish a thing! Pathetic huh?
Current Reads:
- The Murderer's Daughters; Randy Sue Meyers (audio) - almost done
- Venetia Kelly's Traveling Show; Frank Delaney (audio and print version) - almost done
- Hotel Iris; Yoko Ogawa (almost done)
Let the Great World Spin; McCann- 5/5 (audio)Mudbound; Hillary Jordan- 4/5A Private Life; Jane Smiley( 4/5)
Every Last One;Anna Quinlen - 2/5 (audio)Christian the Hugging Lion- 4/5Hot House Flower and the 9 Plants of Desire; Berwin - 4/5 (audio)
Congratulations on your weight loss, that is quite an accomplishment in one week's time!
ReplyDeleteHave a great Sunday, Diane!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on such a successful weight-loss week, but more importantly, for building those healthy life-long habits :)
ReplyDeleteGood for you, Diane! Love your new seashells, by the way. Enjoy your summertime.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your healthy living success! I'm trying so hard to get in the habit this summer of doing my exercises first thing in the morning. I hope I can keep it up.
ReplyDeleteReading and healthy exercise! Great way to spend time. Have a great week. My Sunday Salon.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the success of your healthy living mission!
ReplyDeleteWe just got an iPad and I'm wondering what apps you like the best.
Wow, you did great losing over 4 lbs. That's a big accomplishment.
ReplyDeleteI love your new header pic! Have a great week and happy reading. (and walking)
Hooray for the Healthy Living! Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteOh, I need to get back into the healthy living routine! I had started my Obsessions/Compulsions blog to help with that, but I got sidetracked...again!
ReplyDeleteTime to begin again!!
Hey, I love the new blog header. Very "sea-like" and making me want to go to the beach.

Kathy,
ReplyDeleteThe APPs I currently have on my iPhone and iPad are:
Amazon Kindle; Urbanspoon; Amazon.com; Today Show; Yellow Pages; Wather Channel; Google; Flashlight; Epicurious; Tip Calculator; Battery Magic; Dragon Dictation; AAA Roadside; White Pages; Free Wi-Fi; Video Poker;Stocks; Paypal; IMDB.
All these were FREE when I added them. I haven't paid for an APP, but am considering paying for Scrabble.
I have heard before that taking refined sugars out of your diet will have an immediate effect. Congrats on the weight loss!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your weight loss! I use to go to a nutritionist who swore off all refined sugars when he use to train for marathons! Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks also for sharing some of your audiobook picks! I've kind of become hooked to listening to audiobooks lately due in part to June being audiobook month, and have been savoring everyone's favorites! I just bought To Kill a Mockingbird with Sissy Spacek narrating and am going to celebrate the 50th year celebration of To Kill a Mockingbird by listening to Sissy read it! She's suppose to do a wonderful job.
Have a great week!
Congrats on your weight loss! Walking is so easy to do, but yet people don't realize the benefits that come with it! (BTW, I love your new blog design!)
ReplyDeleteI recently purchased an iPad and love it. I'm still waiting for my case to arrive, so I'm not taking it out of my house at the moment.
Who knew you were a gambler :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on losing weight!
Congrats on the weight loss. Four pounds is quite the success. I am lucky to loose two a month.
ReplyDeleteHope you got everything done today. I was lazy, made some to do lists, then went back to reading. Almost done with the latest Pratchett book.
Thanks for all the weight loss congrats. I appreciate it and was so happy to hear your take on refined sugars and exercise.
ReplyDeleteI am happy to hear many of you are enjoying the new look of my blog. It was time for a change and Staci (Life in the Thumb) inspired me...LOL
Shon, The new iPad would be so easy to drop and destroy as it is so slippery. I bought the apple sleeve ($40.00), which acts as a stand as well. It is NOT worth $40.00, but does the job.
Steph...yes, my secrets out. If I was loaded with cash I would probably enjoy gambling for $$, but since I'm not I do it with play money :)
Pathethic?? never!! Congrats on the 4.5 pounds. It's amazing how much better you feel once you eliminate sugar!!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week Diane!
I like your header pic...but sadly I miss your old one too. I love your blog either way though. :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on you weight loss accomplishment!
You are doing terrific on the healthy living regime -- congrats!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you are really doing well on your fitness goals! I am proud of you!! I do so hope that you continue to enjoy your audio books and get a lot read this week! Have an amazing week!
ReplyDeleteWhen did you change your layout? It looks awesome.
ReplyDeleteYay on that weight loss. I struggle with it myself. I gave up refined sugars but slip every now and then. I try not to eat white flour either, which is easier.
I am back on the reading trail. I stalled with Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest but I finished it and moved on to other things.
I absolutely LOVED Mudbound. I Have you read The Help? It provides an interesting counterpoint to Mudbound and is set in Miss. around the same time.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on your weight loss!! That is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteSarah, I have read Mudbound and liked it a lot! Less than the Help, but still very good.
