Jose Saramago (1922-2010)
(amzaon's website)We mourn the passing of Portuguese novelist Jose Saramago, winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature, who died on June 18 at the age of 87. A provocative thinker and inimitable stylist, Saramago often polarized public opinion, but the love and admiration for his fiction--including Blindness, All the Names, and the forthcoming The Elephant's Journey--has never wavered.
I loved his novel Blindness so much that I read it twice --extremely rare for me. He will be missed.
Blindness was one of my all-time favorites, too! So powerful, so unique, so creative.
ReplyDeleteI want to read Blindness..didn't realize that you've read it twice. So sad to hear about his passing.

May his soul rest in peace. I am yet to read his works.
ReplyDeleteI loved Blindness too. I keep meaning to read something else of his but Im afriad it might not live up to Blindness.

ReplyDeleteAdd me to the list of fans for Blindness - a very haunting and unforgettable book. Haven't seen the movie nor have I read any of his other work - which I vow to remedy.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear this! I have a few of his books on my shelf. Now I am going to have to try to get to them sooner. Thanks for letting me know about this.
ReplyDeleteI have Blindness on my shelf, waiting patiently to be picked up. The fact that you've read it twice has me looking forward to reading it even more!
