June Reading Wrap Up ~ Mid Year and Time to Refocus

Can you believe half the year is now over? Are you pleased with your reading progress so far this year. I'm happy with my 2010 stats thus far, but I am a bit disappointed with how June ended up versus how I thought my reading would go. I also had my very first DNF for 2010 this month, after trying, but finding out The Passage, is just not my kind of book. Here's what I read in June:
  1. Christian, the Hugging Lion; Richardson, Parnell and Bates (4/5) (childrens)
  2. Let the Great World Spin; McCann - (audio) 5/5
  3. Hot House Flower and the 9 Plants of DesireHothouse Flower and the Nine Plants of Desire: A Novel; Berwin (audio) - 4/5
  4. Mudbound; Jordan - 4/5
  5. Every Last One; Quindlen - (audio) 2/5
  6. The Genius in All of Us; Shenk - (audio) 4.5/5
  7. Private Life; Jane Smiley - 4/5
  8. The Murderer's Daughters; Randy Susan Meyers (audio) - 4.5/5
  9. The Hotel Iris; Yoko Ogawa - 4.5/5
  10. Venetia Kelly's Traveling Show; F. Delaney (audio) - 4/5
  11. Where the Sunrise Begins; Wood and Popp - 5/5(childrens)
  12. The Everything Flat Belly Cookbook; Koelher and Acevedo - 5/5
Now here is the rub.....This year I hosted my first (2) challenges; one challenge I'm doing okay with 2010 Reading from My Shelves Project having read 47/75, but then there is the other challenge: 2010 Books to Read Before I Die, where I have only read 3/20 books. (I'm wondering if it might be bad luck to finish all the books on that list...LOL).

In 2010, I signed up for 10 challenges and have completed 6 of these so I'm good with that.

So what are my plans for the second half of 2010? I'd love to complete ALL (10) of my challenges, but I'll be content on just going with the flow, and reading whatever book feels right for me. I'm going to try to resist reading all the latest and greatest books, and select some of those great books from years past, that I never managed to get to.....let's see how that goes.

How about you, how are you doing?

  1. As always I am not reading nearly as much as I would like. Work just gets in the way of fun! But it looks like you had a good June, at least by my standards. Sorry to hear you didn't like The Passage. I have it to read when I go camping in a week and am really looking forward to it.

  2. I'm doing pretty OK on my challenges but sometimes I find myself feeling resentful of books I "HAVE" to read for challenges. I'm actually thinking of having a challenge free year next year!

  4. Yeah, don't finish that Before I Die challenge!! :) I'm doing terrible with your challenge, but I still have 6 months to redeem myself. My summer is dedicated to getting through all those ARCs..so far so good!! I didn't think The Passage sounded like one I would care for either! Good luck with the last 6 months..can you believe that 2010 is half over????

  5. Jenners, I plan to resist ALL challenges in 2010 except for the 100+ book challenge. It's too stressful at times/

  8. I am definitely not reading as many books as I want to or expected to. I need to manage my time better, then maybe I can really make a dent in my TBR pile.

  12. I am really bad at finishing the 1% well read challenge to read the 1001 Books to read before you die. The 1st year I joined I was 2/10 and the next 0/10. So I didn't join this year!

  14. I've been doing better than I thought I would...I've completed six challenges, with two more to go...and of those two, I'm two-thirds finished with one of them, with nothing completed on the other one.

I've read 73 books so far this year. I haven't yet compiled the list for June. I'm going there now.

I like that one logo you created, about books purchased in 2010...it's helped me keep on track. So far, I've only purchased 22 books this year. That's real progress for me!
