Mailbox Monday is a gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week and explore great book blogs. January's host is Alyce@ At Home with Books. (3) new to me books last week:
(all 3 books were sent by paperbackswap members)
- Arthur and George; Julian Barnes - loved - A Sense of an Ending so wanted to read something else by Barnes.
- Last Man in the Tower; Aravind Adiga (read and author's previous book White Tiger)
- Brideshead Revisited; Evelyn Waugh (recommended by Zibilee@ Raging Bibliomania)
Get any new books last week?
I know at least one of those books will be good because I totally trust Zibilee! Enjoy your books!
ReplyDeleteYes, Zibilee has a way of making me want to read everything she has reviewed --a major enabler that gal.
DeleteI read White Tiger and loved it. I'd love to try Last man in the Tower. Enjoy your new books!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sharon. I also liked White Tiger (didn't love it, but was glad I read it).
DeleteMy choices this week were all based on book bloggers recommendations as well.
ReplyDeleteMystica, My shelves have grown and grown as a result of book bloggers, but I've also experienced some wonderful reads because of readers like yourself.
DeleteOOH the books look really good!
ReplyDeleteSheila, not that I needed more books (LOL) but yes they do look good.
DeleteBrideshead Revisited is one I've wanted to read for a while. Maybe one of these days.
ReplyDeleteRyan, Everyone who has read it has seemed to loved it, so I think we'll be in for a treat.
DeleteHi Diane,
ReplyDeleteI have to admit to never having read 'Brideshead Revisited', or watched the television adaptation, which was so hugely popular.
Both of your other books are new to me also, but both sound like intense reads, which will touch on many of the human emotions, both good and bad.
Three books which would definitely make me very happy, if they landed in my mailbox, so I hope that you enjoy them all.
Yvonne
Yvonne, everyone who mentions Brideshead Revisited has seemed to love it. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteAll of these are new to me. Going to go read more about them now.
ReplyDeleteEspecially looking forward to Brideshead Revisited and Arthur and George,
DeleteBrideshead Revisited is wonderful! I hope you thoroughly enjoy it, Diane. Have a good week and happy reading.
ReplyDeleteKaye, well if you think so as well, I MUST move it up on the TBR list. Glad you loved it too.
DeleteNo review books in my mailbox last week but I did pick up a few kindle deals. I remember when Brideshead Revisited was on PBS but I must have been busy with college or babies at the time and didn't watch. I think Jeremy Irons was in it? I'll bet the book is good!
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to have a few weeks without review books. I always breath easier...LOL
DeleteGreat looking books there.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week
carol
Hey Carol, thanks for stopping by; hope this week is a good one for you as well:)
DeleteI must read something by Evelyn Waugh....your mailbox looks tempting! Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteHere's MY MONDAY MEMES POST and here’s
MY WEBSITE
laurel, I haven't tried her yet either, and all of her books have such high ratings...we must read her soon:)
DeleteThe Adiga book looks interesting. I was a bit disappointed with Brideshead, but probably because it's not quite like the tv series (the old one from the 1980s or so). I liked that series so much that it bothered me that the book wasn't the same.
ReplyDeleteHappy reading!
Judith, someone said the mini series was good?? I'll have to try that after the book.
DeleteYears ago I read Brideshead Revisited after watching the famous BBC miniseries (which is terrific by the way) and really enjoyed it. I hope you do too!
ReplyDeleteYou have me anxious to try the miniseries, after I read the book. Thanks for mentioning it.
DeleteAnother good haul!!
ReplyDeleteYes, I'll need catnaps in between...purrrrr
DeleteNice looking mailbox...happy reading
ReplyDeleteThanks Serena -- enjoy your new books as well.
DeleteNice mailbox...happy reading
ReplyDeleteI just love PBS, I get the best books. I've never actually read Brideshead Revisited. I think maybe this year I will.
ReplyDeleteI love PBS as well, always such nice people and books.
DeleteLast man in the tower looks great. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI think so as well, but it might be a while before I get to it.
DeleteHope your reading week is enjoyable!

DeleteThree great books, Diane! I won a copy of Brideshead Revisited a couple of months ago. I haven't read it yet but I'm looking forward to it. I have seen the series on Masterpeice Classics and it was very good so I know the book will be enjoyable. I hope you like it and your other books!
ReplyDeleteAmy, I'm hearing a lot about the miniseries -- must try that after the book. Have a great week.
DeleteOh, so glad you will be reading Brideshead Revisited. It was such a powerful book, and one that left a real impression on me! I can't wait to hear what you have to say about it!
ReplyDeleteI also have Lat Man in Tower, and got it because Swapna loved it so much. It seems like it's going to be a great read, if I can just make some time for it!
Great stack here today!
