Thankfully Reading - Sunday Update and Summary

Thankfully Reading has been so enjoyable for me.  I was great to allow myself lots of time to read, but yet not feel pressured to stop everything for reading, and also to be free to take a walk, run to the library and have a coffee with my SIL....very relaxing indeed!

So as I mentioned in my last post. Friday, I finished (2) books : The Christmas Dog; Carlson (very good) and Await Your Reply; Chaon (very good) and started a third book which I finished yesterday: The Christmas List; Richard Evans (I loved it), and I also read Wally Lamb's new holiday book: Wishin' and Hopin': A Christmas Story (it is so funny -- loved it so much).  Today I have just one book planned for my A-Z Challenge (I have letters Q and X left); I plan to read: Malcolm X: By Any Means Necessary; Myers.  I'd love to finish Half Broke Horses, by Jeanette Walls as well but that may not happen today (it is a great story).

I'm looking at my review stack, and there are about 15 books that I would love to be able to read and review in December, but realistically that will not happen. I plan to read the ones that seem to appeal to me the most, and remain GUILT FREE.

How are your review stacks or end of year goals coming along?

BTW: I PROMISE to get back to my google reader and read your posts, and respond to some comments starting this evening or tomorrow for sure, I just checked 454 unread posts!  Take a break you guys :) ENJOY YOUR SUNDAY!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Okay, I have officially ended my participation in Thankfully Reading as of 9 PM today/Sunday. I read just one book today: Malcolm X for my A-Z Challenge.  It was a YA book and just around 200 pages. So since Friday, I read (5) books. I had fun Sunday, and except for going out for a walk this morning, we stayed in all day. A little light cooking, reading and wrapping my Secret Santa gift so I can ship it tomorrow.  Hope you had a fun weekend everyone.
  2. Diane, you read a lot this weekend!
    I am reading more slowly these days and posting less. But, everyone's busy at this time of the year, so I'm not feeling too guilty about my snail's pace. And I did read more this weekend, in between the feasting and the family stuff. :)
  3. Sounds like you have had a lovely weekend:) Glad to see Wishin and Hopin is so well liked...I will have to reserve it once again at the library.
  4. Good for you for staying guilt free! I've got to get to Half Broke Horses soon. It isn't a review copy, but I'm dying to read it. I also need to stop taking so many review copies so I *can* get to my TBR books.
  5. I have three books that I promised I'd review by the end of the year so I need to get crackin'. Two are shortish which may help but still. The months are just flying by!
  6. Your book reading has progress quite nicely...very glad that you've enjoyed the books that you've been able to get to. I'm not sure how committed I am to getting the review books done before the end of the year. I know that I don't really want to start off the new year feeling like I'm behind but like you....no guilt!! :)
  7. I'm trying for the guilt free route too, but for me it's with my challenges and not reviews. I don't have any reviews waiting for me and there were a few more challenges I was hoping to complete by the end of December. It's not happening though and I'm not going to stress about it.
  11. Diane-thanks for stopping by-the kitties were in rare form this weekend the warmth of the duvet. However their cuteness is limited to 11:00am-at 4 am the little one has lots of energy.
    Glad to see you had a nice weekend.
  12. My genre challenge goals are coming along fine - it is the certain books ones that are suffering - like The Harry Potter Challenge... I really want to readd them... but there are so many new ones to read to! And the Austin Challenge needs some love as well... I started strong on that one... then drifted :)
  13. Sounds like you had a great weekend of reading, Diane. I liked the pressure-free atmosphere that the Thankfully Reading Weekend offered too.
    I've got quite a number of review books myself I wish I could get to this next month, but I know it won't happen. I think your idea of reading only the ones that appeal to you most in December is a great idea. Guilt free. I like the sound of that!
    Have a great week!
  14. Cheer up, you are definitely NOT the only one with review books to get to. I have 19 left in my stack, plus another 10 I won in contests this year. I have decided that for 2010 I can either participate in challenges, OR I can do ARCs but not both (unless I make the challenge to keep the ARC pile caught up.) I started two of the review ones today, and will try to do at least 2/week until the end of the year, but we'll see.
    anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed your weekend; I did too, and I think we have to give ourselves permission to simply sink into a chair and read for total pleasure at least twice a year.
  15. You had an awesome reading weekend. Wow. Congratulations. I didn't get as much reading in as I hoped, but I did relax and take time to unplug from the computer.
